6 Nations Match Day Thread Previews - Apply Now

    6N Match Day Threads:

As with any international window you may notice the amount of posts peak on the forum, this is especially so during the Six Nations.

One of the appeals of the forum is the amount of knowledgeable posters that give their time and skill to the forum in the form of Match Day Previews.

However, as the forum is especially busy during the 6N we have decided to pre-arrange who gets to write which preview. This will be operated on a first come first serve basis.

The rules are simple, pick one of the matches below and post below. The first to register their interest in a match will have their name edited into the OP here so we know who's doing what and when.

    The stipulations are as follows:

    • Apply by posting which game you'd like to write a preview for below. First come, first serve.
    • Although the same user can do multiple previews, if multiple users want to do the same preview preference will be given to those who have not all ready done or are doing a preview.
    • The thread must be created within 4 hours of the last team announcement. If the thread isn't created then anyone may create one at will.
    • If you can't complete the thread for any reason let us know here prior to the announcements and then someone else can apply for it.
    • You may, if you wish, create a generic 'Build up' thread for any match during the week - more on this below.
    • Finally, no two-line wonders! Please only apply if you're serious about writing up a decent, engaging preview.

With that, here are the following matches:

    ROUND 3:|DATE|Preview By
Italy vs Wales | Sat 23rd Feb | Losty Dublin
England vs France | Sat 23rd Feb | Available
Scotland vs Ireland | Sun 24th Feb | totallegend
    ROUND 4: |
Scotland vs Wales | Sat 9th Mar | Available
    Ireland vs France | Sat 9th Mar | Podge_irl
England vs Italy | Sun 10th Mar | Available
    ROUND 5: |
    Italy vs Ireland | Sat 16th Mar | P_1
    Wales vs England | Sat 16th Mar | Tox56
France vs Scotland | Sat 16th Mar | Swiwi

    Build Up Threads:

In conjunction with the above, we understand that people will want to discuss the merits of the games prior to the team announcements, so during the week building up to the game anyone may start a thread to discuss the game at any point. However, once the team announcements have been made and the matchday thread started these threads will be closed.

This is just a trial process for the 6N window, however if it proves successful we may use it again in the future.

Can I do a preview of Thomond's previews?

Just to add to the anticipation?

Or whatabout a review of Thomond's previews?

Put some pressure on him to perform...

Does the thread have to take a positive tone with regards to our selected 15 or can we call it like it is? :pac:

So long as it doesn't break the charter you can write whatever you want.

Excellent work .ak, might be no harm to sticky this thread too.

Ronan O'Gara starts at 10, much to the delight of Ronan O'Gara, half of Limerick and pretty much nobody else."

If there are no objections raised (or even if there are) I don't mind putting fingers to keyboard and previewing Fra v Scot.

I'll take Ireland v. France sure.

I don't think I'll be able to do many more this season.

I don't think I'll be able to do many more this season.

These last few days have really been a succession of bad news stories for Irish rugby.

That is one helluva cryptic 9-word preview.

    Toulon v Racing Metro?

I'm pretty snowed under with work for the next few weeks, but will definitely try and contribute - if not in the 6 nations, then maybe to a big Rabo game (Leinster / Ulster / Munster derby later in the season) or some European knock-out rugby previews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

This surely doesn't apply to Rabo games?

Yeah, go on then, I'll do one for the Scotland v Ireland game.

Is the policy that we wait until the teams are announced?

Yep. Thanks I'll edit the OP.

I can take England v France.

    In the RED corner England...

    ...in the BLUE corner France

*size of text corresponds to current form

I'm sure you could come up with all sorts of boxing analogies to preview this contest.

However, the boxing promoter is actually from NZ, and he knows the sneaky little b*st*rd in the blue corner will pull out a knockout punch from nowhere, impossible to predict when though.

Everyone who frequents this forum loves the write ups for big games from regular posters. This is the fairest way to continue with those write ups and give everyone a chance.

Instead of throwing toys out of cot, why not showcase a preview of your own? It does actually take a bit of time if it's not to be a cut n paste job, and it's a bit of a hassle if there are already other previews floating about. Since I'm doing Scot v France I will make sure I actually watch all their games, so that the preview is my reasoned opinion, and not just what I've gleaned from the internet. I know what you're getting it, but I don't think that was the point of .ak setting up this thread.

tbf PP this wasn't forced on us, most posters were in favour of it in the feedback thread.

I've no issue with it myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

Yeah I'd have no objections either myself, I've always wanted to do up one of them and it takes the 'crap I'd best get this up before someone else' does element to it too.

There was a feedback thread here, you had the opportunity to speak out on the issue then, but this thread isn't here for you to vent.
