    Does the 2005 almera have a timing belt or chain,and when or what sort of maintenance is required?

    It's got a chain. The chain in these have a habit of stretching causing the car to run rough and puts on the check engine light.

    The only remedy to fix this is a new chain which isn't as easy to change as many timing belts and therefore usually cost more in labour.

    The best way to ensure the chain lasts as long as possible is to service/change the oil+oil filter on time and use the correct spec oil.

    Many of those almeras suffered premeture timing chain failure as a result of not following the above regime.
