Indicators not working

    Hi guys,

My girlfriend is experiencing a strange problem with her Hyundai Getz.

The odd time when she starts the car, the indicators won't work at all! The stalk moves up and down but the indicators don't light up (basically nothing happens)

However, if shes turns on the hazard lights (they work) and turns them back off again, the indicators will work fine thereafter.

This seems to be intermittent and it is only the second time it has happened.

Does anybody know what might cause such an issue?

Thanks for any insight or ideas!

Is there a ticking noise when you turn on the indicator? you know the noise to say the indicator is on.

OP I won't be able to help you with your problem but I'll just say one thing here...

Don't worry about your girlfriends car. More than 90% of cars in Mayo develop the same problem.
    :D

No ticking, no lights. Nothing at all.

That is odd alright. Check the fuses and relay perhaps. Either that, or she can just press the hazards on every time she starts the car :D

Fuses or Realy were my initial thoughts too but would the hazards not also stop working if it were down to a fuse or relay?

I'll check them out anyway just to be sure

A mate of mine had a citroen xsara a few years ago. The hazards worked, but the indicators did not independently. All I know is that he was told that he needed a relay to get it working properly. He sold the car that day and moved to Sweden.

There is seperate relays for the hazards and indicators. Since there is no noise heard I think it could be a dead relay. Try your nearest motor factors they might even do the job for you if your unsure which one :).

It could be a bad connection at the hazzard light switch. The hazzard light switch itself could also be faulty. The reason I say this is because the indicators don't work in some cars when the hazzard light switch is unplugged.

It's a brilliant fix, but might not be a suitable for everyone.:D
