A pal is looking to pick up a 6d in the near future, looking at getting the best deal possible, so looks like an online purchase will be on the cards. Any recommendations for a good place to buy online? Delivery needs to be asap too.

Ian Kerr in Scotland - his website is here. Top class guy.

www.simplyelectronics.net gets a lot of stick online but i have used them 5 times without issue. Canon 550d, Nikon D700, Nikon D5000 and 2 lens without problems.

I always pay by paypal if that makes a difference, but you wont find cheaper imho.

I have used http://www.wexphotographic.com/ a number of times. Delivery is usually about 3 days and they have good customer service.

Ok, as per another thread I had sold my 50mm and 18-135mm on adverts so I took the plunge and ordered for the 6th from simplyelectronics.

I will update this thread as it goes but I am 100% confident as I have ordered 5 times before.

Order placed 11pm Wednesday 13th February.
    Paid by PayPal.
    Canon 28mm F1.8 and HOYA Pro 1 D UV Filter @ €427

As someone said earlier Iain Kerr in Scotland has great prices & great service, I've just ordered the 24-70L II and it is exactly the same price as in Canada and €540+ cheaper then a brick and mortar shop here....yep €540, amazing!

Just had a look at that Ian Kerr website...
    1300 euro for a 5D2? Amazing value.

    are they reliable?
Do you get a regular 1 year warranty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,067 ✭✭✭AnimalRights

I am fairly sure u do...I bought a 70-200L 2.8 IS in 2010, I have sold it on since but I am 99% sure I got everything that you get in a regular shop.

As with any grey market import lenses have a full international warranty but bodies are usually different. Since Ian imports them legally, paying duty, you're eligible for a UK warranty and any rebates available.

http://www.onestop-digital.com/ are very good prices. I've bought from them twice without any hassle

Still never works out how he does it, just a much much smaller profit margin?

Yeah, it's impressive that he seems to make a living from it. A quick google search shows he has a lot of very happy customers so there must be a volume element.

I bought my 7D and 5D3 from him. Both time I ordered body only and got a box with the kit lens removed. Perhaps he can sell the lens separately somehow.

I ordered my lens yesterday on a sunday after exchanging a few emails with Heather and the payment was cleared the same day and it was shipped today....I love the personal touch/communication that they give.

Was looking at a camera on this site, presume these are not grey imports? Prices are very good.

edit: actually see they are based in Hong Kong so I presume you would be hit with import tax

They have a really nice policy on import tax. You'll probably have to pay import tax alright but you just fax them the receipt and they'll refund the tax to you. Plenty of good reviews about online claiming they got their tax refunded with no problems so it seems legit.

I got a lens recently from Pixmania. A tenner more expensive than Ian Kerr, but hassle-free payment, and it arrived after four days.

thanks, so they are grey imports yeah? warranty is only with them? Looking to buy an RX100 are they are significantly cheaper than anywhere else.

See they're selling rx100 for £435 (€510) ... That's a fantastic price. Usually see it on line for around €649.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,550 ✭✭✭Myksyk

Anyone ever used procamerashop.co.uk ... they have the rx100 had the lowest price I've seen.
