Sanding a bolt

    Lads would I damage the bolt if I sanded the black paint off . I'd like to make it all shiney :)

    The finish, blueing or other, is there to help prevent rusting. If you really need a shiny bolt you could get a custom one.

    Anything that can reduce the flash that the sun gives off your gun or any other part of you will be useful when stalking nervous game animals.

    Of course, living in the RoI, sun can often be the least of your concerns. I'd leave the finish there, it will help slow down the inevitable rust....

    Wouldn't touch it, can't imagine it's paint. It would be either bluing, in which case it's protecting from rust, or it's a coating to prevent friction and enable easy operation, in which case the disadvantages of removing it are obvious.
