Hi!!my boyfriend and I are considering having our wedding here in early 2014 and were just hoping that maybe someone who has got married there recently enough could let us know how theirs went. We are looking for real layed back wedding hence we loved the outdoor barbq area.

    Any info is greatly appreciated!!

My Dad was married there a couple of years back and a friend had their reception there a couple of years before that.

Dad's was a small family affair with the ceremony in the Castle followed by a champagne reception on the lawn and a meal for the family in a downstairs room and drinks in the bar until the small hours. Lovely night.

My friends was a more traditional wedding, 100+ guests having a sit-down meal upstairs at banqueting benches and tbh, it was a bit too crowded for that. We all had a blast anyway but dinner was quite a crush for those numbers.

It's a great location but if you're looking at large numbers you'd probably need to look elsewhere unless they've made some major changes since I was last there.

Yep, that's the spot. Maybe I'm mis-remembering but I thought the dining hall we had the first time was up a stairs... I could be wrong on that though!

I have been to a few weddings in Cloonacauneen and I think it is lovely. I remember the food being good as well. Not the biggest of venues so I reckon it would suit up to about 120 people.

I have work a few weddings in that venue as a DJ.has a nice touch about the place, downside for me is the main reception area is cramped a bit.

Wait til the invites go out and the RSVP's come back: we invited over 220 and have only had about 140 positive responses.

The upstairs area that's mentioned above is quite small - if you only have about 20 people, they'll put you in there - but it's really nice, big open fireplace, really cosy.
For my own wedding, I got ready in there (hair/makeup etc), and later on we had a few photos taken in front of a big roaring fire (wedding was in November, so it worked really well).
We had the civil ceremony downstairs in the big area in the back (not outside, brrr), the meal was set up while we had the champagne reception in the bar and the red front room, and then meal in the back room again. The area where the ceremony had been held got turned into the dancefloor for after :)
All in all, I think for us, it worked really really well. We did have a fairly small wedding, I think about 70 for the meal, and a few more for the afters. But we had a good bit of space like that, they can fit more tables in there for sure.

I could be wrong about the 120 people max though, just felt like that. Maybe it does hold up to 200.

I was at a party there and all the people staying over complained about the accommodation. They were so cold they went and bought hot water bottles / pajamas the Saturday in advance of staying the second night. The rooms are very very small as well and overall the accommodation let the place down. Maybe it's been done up as this was 4/ 5 /6 years ago.
