Macbook Cracks at Hinges - 3rd time

    Hi all,

    I've a Macbook Mid 2010 White Unibody

Anyway, last year, a few days before warranty ran out, I noticed some cracks near the hinges, as shown in this picture: http://mindenki.hu/macbook/rep1.JPG

I ring them up, they agree to repair it. So I go to Compu B and they replace the whole screen (took 2 days)

4/5 months later, same cracks appear. Ring them up again, go through the same process and get a new screen on it again.

It's happening again. This laptop hardly leaves the house. I literally have the plastic they had on the new screen still on it since the last repair. Its getting ridiculous at this stage. So far it has cost me €68 for buses to and from Compu B, and I'll be looking at another €34 if I have to do the same process again.

On a side note, the mousepad also seems to be gone to sh1te. Does not produce the same clicking sound, jumps irratically around the screen, and does not respond well in general. I've had to use a mighty mouse and disable the mousepad.

    Anyway, my question is this:
Am I entitled to anything other than a new screen on this?

I'd contact apple and see what they have to say.

I'm not sure Apple will do anything if Compu B was the point of purchase (not saying it's not worth a try though!)

    Where are you bussing from/to?

Bought it direct from apple. Compu B are the closest authorised repair centre. Bussing from Navan, €17 for a day return, x2 for each repair, once dropping it off and once collecting it.

    Hi,
Just like to clear up one thing
I've always found compu b to be extremely efficient and professional, Apple are the problem here.

It's a case (hah!) of a badly-designed thin hinge, which sees regular action AND near a hot-air vent. The latter two points are what are causing failure-over-time.

Nothing you can do other than not buy a plastic-cased computer next time, OP.

Can't believe they repaired it for you!

My 2009 macbook has hairline cracks there. But my Folks-in-law have a 2010 macbook with seriously large cracks on it.

An authorised Apple repairer in Dublin informed him that they could only be the result of the laptop being carried by it's screen and hence we're covered by warranty.

Now - the laptop might as well be a desktop as it bloody well never moves from where it sits.

This seriously p*sses me off. The only thing Apple agreed to replace was the base which had serious bubbling issues.

The build quality on macbooks is absolute muck to be fair.

Apple normally have no problem replacing the casing on the Macbooks as it was such a widespread problem.

    Which company told you that?
