I am due to go to an interview early next week and need to prepare. I haven't had an interview in six years though so am completely clueless! I was really bad at interviews then, but am a much more confident person now.

So are there any good sites people could recommend? I am working this weekend, so don't have time to go to the library to get out some books.

Very much depends on the type of job and employer.

Best advice I can give you is to research the role and the company. Fit both with your current and previous experience, and research competency based interviews, plenty of info on the web around those if you search.

YOu could do with reading "http://books.google.ie/books/about/60_Seconds_and_You_re_Hired.html?id=NeceEouOqkcC&redir_esc=y"

Its all about picking out the handful of key skills that are required for the job, drawing out where you have those skills and aptitudes, and consistently working that into your BRIEF answers to many of the questions asked. Many of the people doing a first interview are ill-experienced or not line managers / specialists. If you can't concisely stick to what they are looking for, they won't remember you when the day is over and decisions are being made.

I have used this book's teachings VERY successfully. To get down to the last 2 for an MD-designate role in an industry I had no experience in (Insurance) when I went to the agency originally regarding a telesales role (I was qualified for the MD role but I was doing my own thing at the time and seeking a part-time income). I used it to successfully transfer from a private marketing career into public service. I coached a brother-in-law who, despite having not had a job interview or changed job in 15 years, landed a plum role working for Bill Cullen's empire but despised the b*st*rd's culture and left after 2 months. BUT, he got the gig and that's what its all about.

To me, the book is gold dust. Its about getting to know yourself, not presuming that they can extract stuff from your cv but instead becoming a speaking cover letter !! Understand? Join the dots for them. Communicate why you??

EDIT: - I found this for you. ESPECIALLY internalise the concept of the 5 point agenda. ie. YOU in 5 points vis-a-vis THIS JOB. https://gustavus.edu/careercenter/pdf/Interviewing_Techniques.pdf

Think about it. HARD! Why you?? Then communicate that and BE CONFIDENT. After that, you're just chatting. NO desperation, just chatting to see if you both are a fit.

    Very best wishes with it
