Ballymount from Rathmines

    Hey,

Have been looking at moving to Dublin after getting a job in the Ballymount Ind. Estate and have not noticed that it is not particularly well serviced by public transport.

I was hoping to move somewhere like Rathmines with the intention of getting the 18 (or 9 from Harold's Cross) to the Walkinstown Roundabout and hoofing it from there.

Is there a nice area with better transport links to the Ballymount area while still being close enough to town?

The 18 would meet the 56a along the Long Mile Road. 56a serves Ballymount but frequency isn't great

Harold's Cross and Kimmage aren't bad, although they don't have quite the same level of services as Rathmines. Terenure and Templeogue are nice, closer to work, but further from town. Terenure Cross is a severe nuisance if you are travelling with the peak flow. Crumlin and Drimnagh can be a bit mixed, but I've never had problems in either - most of the problems seem to be with specific people that you can mostly avoid.

You could cycle it from Rathmines in 15-20 minutes (depending on exactly where) - there are quite a few traffic calmed roads available.

Play around with the different options on www.a-b.ie making sure you give exact locations and the right date and time.

The Industrial Estate is a very big area. Depending on where you're going, the 151 might be ok which meets the 18 too on the Long Mile Road, the 13/68/69 goes along the Naas Rd. The 56A is every 75 minutes and goes through the heart of the place.

The 27/77A goes up the Greenhills Road and you can walk down to some places which might be the quickest route if the 56A isn't due, eg. UPS, TV3.

You could also get the 83 from Rathmines to its last stop, walk around the corner and then the 9 to Walkinstown roundabout. All depends on where you are going in the estate..

The 13, 68 and 69 will also take you near to the estate at the Red Cow side; you can connect with these via the 18 or a trip into town. Be warned, the inbound trip will require you to cross the Naas road either at the Long Lime Road or Red Cow.

Area wise, look in and around Crumlin or Drimnagh as they are handy for work and well linked for town. It's not as close at Rathmines but you'd get an hour a day off your commute compared to Dublin 6.

Some nice gaffs in Harolds Cross/Kimmage/Mount Argus on the 9 route might be an option.
