We Need to Talk About Peter O'Mahony

To be honest I am just after replying to the Heaslip thread and I just can't get over how little has been said of POMs tackling stats on Sunday. In a forwards game he made one tackle in 80 minutes of rugby. For a flanker that is inexcusable. I see POM has been hailed by some as the best player on the pitch and I'd like to ask how they came to that conclusion? Was it his one tackle? Or was it (as I expect) the fact that he made yardage in open play? Because I for one can't get my head around it. Best and SOB were miles ahead of POM and potentially Heaslip too, yet Best and Heaslip are said to have bad poor games and POM was the best player. The guy has some serious hype behind him and is labelled captain material despite constantly getting involved in fights. I just don't see it, give me 3 reasons to start him over Henry remembering that Henry jumps for Ulster which is considered far superior line out to Munsters.

pathetic thread and post, just like the Heaslip one

sad really. You're basing your entire argument on one stat.

Whose stats say Peter O'Mahony only made one tackle?

Good to see you edit your post to add something constructive rather than just ridiculing someone for having a different opinion. Tackles made is a pretty important stat for a flanker do you disagree? I could have sworn you were praising Ryan and McCarthy last week on their tackling stats..

ESPN they've since been updated to 2 tackles. Which is unforgivable for a blindside flanker

ESPN now him as having made two tackles.

I don't think he was our best player yesterday, SOB was.

He is progressing nicely though and is very good, or certainly one of our main guys, in the line out.

His tackle stats in general seem to be good. Not in the same league as SOB of course but SOB is really an excellent player and is a much more experienced player.

Ignoring most of the nonsense in the rest of the post..

    Considered by who?

I think Scrum.com has him making 2 tackles, I agree considering the conditions and how England played it does seem baffling that he only made 2 tackles.

This kind of venting doesn't need it's own thread. There's already a thread to discuss Irish players in the current squad.
