steam coming from boiler

    hi guys ive a popular oil burner 82. noticed this morning when in the garage that there was steam spewing from the black cap in the picture. the heating had been switched off for about half an hour at the time. never noticed this before, i' m guessing it's not normal?:(

    its overheating. how old is your pump?


    does steam come withing 10-15 mins or after long period of use?

    thanks for the reply. bought the house in 2009 and boiler was in situ, house was built in 2001 so im guessing it was installed around then. last serviced a year and a half ago. heating was only on about 2 hours

    id say just needs a new air vent so. they can leak and evaporate

    There are 3 black caps in your picture, i presume you mean the small one on the Auto air valve, these are crap and normally leak and will steam up with the heat of the AAV, screw it closed and sort out getting a new good quality one fitted in its place.

    Fit a new autumatic air vent and pipe the pressure relief valve so that it discharges to the outside.
