03 Corolla Stereo Problem

My 03 Corolla Stereo is playing up, I know this problem has been discussed a number of times on Boards, but I have a few questions of my own.

Last week, the stereo shut itself off and since then it's just displaying a very faint backlight. It's also randomly beeped once or twice as if it's searching for channels but nothing is displaying on the display. For the most part the backlight remains faint and none of the buttons are responsive.

I took off the front plate of the stereo panel to see if there were any loose connections in to the back unit, everything looks fine.

I was going to order second hand parts online, but can anyone tell me if I just need the front black plastic panel part? Or, do I need a whole replacement back stereo unit as well? I know the question might sound vague but seeing as it appears to be a common problem I thought the cause might be quite straightforward as well.

    Thanks guys!

    Tommy
