Just got a quote for €2200 for labour cost to install a Stanley Erin...this is just for labour. We reckon the cost of piping and parts to be around €800. Our hotpress is on the opposite side of the staircase to our sitting room and we have a bison slab to contend with but not sure if this will cause any hassle. Large 4 bedroom detached house. Does anyone think this is excessive for labour????

got quoted 1400 to install the same stove and I felt i was getting ripped off too. they said it was a 2 day job so I couldnt see how they could charge that amount, thats 2 weeks+ pay for me. getting a different plumber to install it for almost half the price. they were also charging 1530 for materials, which ive now gotten for 1250

Jesus..your quote is still way cheaper than mine..why are you parts so expensive..€700 - 900 is average up here in Donegal..I'm the last of my pals to get a stove and theirs all came in at around that...their plumbers where about €1300-€1600 depending on work involved..

entirely depends on the house. day and a half job in one, near a week in another.

That's true but I think 2200 is pricey though. For me that price usually includes parts too

Although 2200 sounds high... we have no idea as we haven't seen whats involved. 2200 doesnt go in his back pocket.
A company has tax, insurance, van tax and insurance, diesel, pension maybe, tools and drills have to bought and maintained, courses on various products payed for but also lose a days pay the list goes on but most importantly knowledge to do the correct job, a safe job as it is a stove involved here. The wrong job here is potentially very dangerous.

Did you get a break down of this cost?
    Hourly rate?
    number of lads
exactly what work they will be doing, chasing walls/floors, lining chimney?
    hire of tools/machinery, scaffolding etc.

As a price for "installing a stove" it seems expensive but depending on the job it could be a cheap price.
With out knowing exactly what is involved it is impossible to comment on the price you were given.

But no matter what price it costs make sure whoever carries out the work knows how to install solid fuel boilers properly.
