    Hi

I'm looking for a phone where I could do tethering but it can't be android or iphone - need phone I don't need to charge everyday.

make/model doesn't matter it could be even alcatel or doro but must be 3g (EDGE in worst case scenario) and tethering capable (USB, BT or WI-FI).

I was looking thru Voda, Meteor, O2, Tesco but can't find it.

Maybe You guys have any idea ?

    Tom

    edit:

I need this in case of emergency - just in case, I don't have any internet plan with my mobile anyway.
For 99% of the day I'm in area with internet access.

Tethering drains battery like crazy, just so you know. Does't matter what phone you use for it, will probably have to be plugged in charging if you want to tether for extended periods.

Second what srsly78 says above re battery and tethering if you are looking at the wifi route. If you have a phone that you can do USB tethering you would be ok as connecting the phone to the laptop will be charging it at the same time.

I had a Nokia 5800 (Symbian OS) a few years back and got software from Jokuspot or something like that to turn it into a wifi hotspot so I'd imagine any phone can be used in that manner but battery will be devoured by the wifi . Charging it at the same time via car cigarette socket wouldn't even keep up if I remember correctly only on mains would the battery stay at a constant level while wifi was running.

Also if you are looking at using a phone as I suggest above (USB tethering) make sure it also charges via the same socket you will be plugging the tethering cable into. My old Nokia had a seperte port for data connection and charging. Current phone doesnt, both are through a micro USB port.

I think I will look for some feature phone like some cheap samsung/nokia with usb tethering. Most of the phones will charge over usb anyway.

Just be sure to check if you go with the Nokia that it charges over the USB also as I said above my Nokia 5800XM didn't but then again that was probably one of the early smartphones after the Iphone.

Samsung Galaxy Mini supports wifi hotspot and tethering and is available for €60-€90 (without needing you to sign a contract).

3g is the thing that eats battery on ALL phones - even the older ones that we remember as having better battery.

If you turn off 3g on your android the battery can last a whole week, that's how big a difference it makes.

Thus your request for battery-powered tethering is unrealistic - if you want to use for extended period then a charger must be involved.

Have you considered buying some spare batteries and swapping as needed?

Or maybe I wanna back o normal (dump) phone but I don't know it yet ?

Thing is that I carrying laptop with me and I have access to internet at home and in office so 3g tethering would be used in case of emergency (kinda).

I hate swapping batteries - too much work and too much time.

A dongle might be more suitable. You can get them unlocked if necessary.

Why don't you just get something like a battery backup and carry it with you. 3G + WiFi are battery killers. Add tethering and it makes it worse.

Get an extended battery or a battery pack would be my advice and keep your existing device. I seen a 10000 ma one on bargain alerts recently.
