car towbar wont light one of the side lights on my trailer

    basically my cars towbars electrics wont light one of the side lights on my trailer. it lights the other one alright. the lights are definatly working on the trailer as i tried it off the tractor so its something funny with one of the electrical part of the car. any idea?

    check where the connections are on the socket cables may have been pulled.

    Could be corroded terminals spray with wd and try to give a rub of sand paper

    Some people fitting towbar electrics don't realise you need two separate feeds, one for each side.Pin 5 should have a brown wire for RHS and pin 7 a black wire for LHS.
    A quick bodge is to join both of these wires in the TRAILER plug. It means if you have a VW or similar your left or right park lights won't work independantly
    when ignition is off, but only when trailer is connected.

    The wires for the towbar are probably joined into the car harness by scotch connecters. This probably is the weakest point because they can be pulled easily. Search for them under the boot carpet, behind the side trim in the boot and at the rear of the light clusters.
