I like both courses and if I had to pick one then id say Moyvalley. Just prefer the outlay of holes out there. Pro shop is good too.

Have you looked at Rathcore? I'm a member and I'd rate it very highly. If interested I'd split the referral discount of 100 euro with you!!!!

Anyway best of luck on the return.

No problem at all. Moyvalley is a lovely course and the staff are really friendly people. I'm not a member so know very little on the club vibe etc.

By all means have a look at Rathcore yourself and play it. Drop me a PM if your interested in the referral deal.

    Hi

I have played both courses (Millicent quite a few times) and Moyvalley would be a much better track in my opinion. There are some really lovely holes on both courses (I love the par three 4th and 17th in Millicent, for example) but Moyvalley might be, depending on your ability, the more challenging. Its certainly more interesting to look at.

Moyvalley's clubhouse is also outstanding - real middle-of-the-boom, spend-as-much-as-possible sort of stuff in terms of quality and layout. But it really puts Millicent's one in the shade (although to be fair, Millicent's clubhouse is no shack either).

    But for me it would come down to;
    (a) convenience - i.e. how handy is the club to home/the commute home from work, and
    (b) the atmosphere in the club - i.e. what are the members like? Is there a good feeling about the place?

Now, I don't know where you're based so I can't judge (a), but on (b) I think Millicent would be a better bet. Its more established and has a pretty good atmosphere whenever I'm there. Moyvalley spent quite a while in the financial doldrums and (again, I'm speculating here), may have suffered as a result.

In the end though, you just have to go with your gut and decide yourself on what's best...

Whats the pratice facilites like in both places? Im more interested in a facility where i can bring my own balls rather than pay for a bucket every time i want to practice which will be every time im there
I will play most of my golf during the week since i work shifts any idea how busy the courses are midweek

both courses are similiar in distance away from me, i live and work in leixlip

moyvalley has top notch practice facilities - 2 usga level chipping/bunker areas, big putting green + range. the range is prone to flooding as its low lying and marshy so that is one thing to consider....the chipping greens are always open though.

i joined moyvalley on a very good 5 day offer last yr, primarially for the practice facilities.

for me the it hasnt got the club atmosphere of more established courses, down to the lack of members i guess + i also found carr golf guys running it to be a bit odd to say the least. i had a few experiences with them (without going into detail) that you wouldnt get in other clubs. although in fairness to them i think they do have problems with people sneaking out on the course/practice ground.

the layout is good, although new forest is a much better course imho. better maintained too...

this is all my personal experience/opinion, others may differ. i wont be renewing the 5 day this year. i was already a full member somewhere else and took up the offer last year to test the ground.

I've played MV a few times, played it most recently at the end of January, fairways and greens were in great nick but it was brutal wet everywhere else, green to tees and tees to fairways were covered in trolley wheel marks and even with good shoes slippy, some of the rough was just pure water e.g. left of 10th fairway, some bunkers were 90%+ filled with water e.g. rear of 16th and all were were out of play as they were compacted rock hard.
Reciprocal playing rights also includes Castle Dargan Golf Club if you were ever up that way...
