Recording statistics during a round

I'm looking to try and make an effort is year to lower my handicap (18.8)...rather than the usual play once a weekend effort.

What do people use to record stats and find the areas to improve on?
Just scribbling on the scorecard or other methods?

TBH willy off 19 the areas you need to improve on should be pretty obvious, as n every area, maybe when you get to low single figures you can start keeping stats to highlight certain areas but even then you' should know yourself where your own problem areas are.

I use golfshot (there's an app and a website) found it really good. The net effect for me was to show that scoring is about the short game, anything that helps reinforce this is worthwhile in my view.

I would disagree entirely, keeping stats can benefit anyone regardless of handicap. You can look back on rounds and see how your score is actually compiled, we all know when we have a good round and a bad round. Just because a good round for a 19 hcp'er would be poor by your standards, doesn't mean it cant focus a 19hcp'er on what when right that day and also chart improvements over time.
I also enjoy just looking back over my stats, I'd recommend it to anyone as a free but in-depth method of charting your game.

If I'm getting lessons though I'd want to target something. And tracking will help me focus on the worst part.
My problem is that I can play well but not score well. "On my day" I can put together a great round and score close to 72 net...but that could include double bogeying (or worse) all the par 3s. Next round it could be the opposite.

So apart from course management and consistency...I'd like to have a focus on what to improve.

Downloaded this and it seems a little awkward at first. Will persist and see if it becomes easier once familiar with it.

This should explain it, you can ignore the GPS element and select Congu for handicap style.

I use Golfshot too, I log my rounds when I get home.
The statistics are great to have and really show where you are losing shots.

I use GolfShot, record when I get home, seems easy for me to remember my round..

Even showed it to my Pro before lesson, he was very impressed. He then knows exactly what I should work on - (should know it myself to be honest :D )

If you are out playing a round on your own and the course is quiet, then golf shot is great for keeping track of shots.

What i do sometimes to track my shots (when playing a casual round only) is to mark shots taken on the line below where I'm keeping my score.
For example on hole one, 1st line is for score, below that where you would enter a playing partners score I'll mark L M or C for left, drive to middle or left/right of fairway, same for next shot and all the way down to how many putts. Quick way of keeping track of where you lost shots and for analysis later on when you are wondering why you didn't score better!!
