Sky box not working, Should I Pay to get a new one?

My sky+ HD is not working correctly. When we pause and play, the picture and voice is out of sync.
I was onto sky and we done a reset, rebuild and back to factory setting thingy. Now they want to send out an engineer and replace the box with a refurbished one for €80.
Any advise from anyone in this situation before. Dont really want to pay €80 for a sky engineer just to bring a box. Surly they could post it out to me for a few euro postage. I am not even sure if I should even pay for a replacement in the first place. Any info or how you handled the issue before would be great thanks.

there is a good chance you can get it cheaper than 80 euro with a bit of talking, threaten to cancel and you might get somewhere, Sky never send out boxes.
The old box has to picked up and brought back

Do what the other post said. Tell them you will change company or change to free view sat if they dont replace the box asap. Your paying them at least 30 euro a month, its in there intereset to replace for free and lose 80 Euro instead of losing a monthly sum of money out of you.

    Its definitely Fact,

Service call involves Engineer going out fixing the problem, if that includes the box, the box is changed and the old box is taken back to the Stores

Had the exact same problem a few months ago. Sky wanted a €100 for an engineer visit,
told them I couldn't afford that and I'd have to cancel the subscription. The call lasted about 20mins
and I got passed around to maybe 3-4 different people all asking the same questions,
all getting the same answer that I couldn't afford the €100 charge.

They let me go through the whole cancellation process right till the very last moment
when I got passed to 1 final person who said they'd do the call out for €10.
Stick to your guns and bluff them out, got a brand new HD box out of it.

Rang them and they said €100 for the call out, not €80:eek: I said I wasn't prepared to pay 100 or anything like it. The lad went away and came back with an offer of €10 to fix the problem.
I got through to an Irish lad and in fairness it was a very trouble free conversation. I stated my position and he put me on hold, he came back with the €10 offer. Good customer service in fairness.
Thanks lads and ladies for you comments and help. Probably wouldn't have called back tonight only for you.

The last 10 people who rang sky with the same problem probably just agreed to the price and paid it, so well done

I rang for a new sky+ box because I can't get the on demand service on my old white one. Got a quote of €259 for a new hd box. Nearly fell off my seat. They currently have an offer for a free box for new subscribers. But nothing for the existing customers. I kicked up a bit of fuss and got talking to the cancellation department and got a free box and free installation offered almost straight away.
I think if I'm paying €77 a month for tv (crazy when I think about it) then should be entitled to free upgrades.

Always threaten to cancel and sky will give you a deal to keep you from switching to another provider.
