Another inner barrel query

Just about to get a new inner barrel for my G&G Raider but have had second thoughts about whether to go for a direct replacement, I.e. 363mm length or to go for an extended length and cover with a mock suppressor as I do like this "look".

Any downsides to this? I've heard that fitting a longer barrel can cause compression issues as the piston wasn't designed for this (and this it lowers your fps) but other forums say the longer length can improve accuracy. Lot of conflicting opinions out the on the web!

Any advice? Anyone done this mod and liked it/regretted it?

The volume in your cylinder should be equal to or slightly greater than the volume of your barrel, if you have a air volume less than the volume in your cylinder then you get a loss in fps. How far are you looking to extend it?, this loss in fps is rectified by changing the cylinder.

The longer barrel=better range is debatable imo, My brothers sentry which is has a 295mm has the same range as my M4 which has a 395mm barrel, his vfc scar has greater distance than my EBR which has a 509mm barrel, but that will change :). Keep in mind this is my opinion in my experiece :).

The tighter the bore the tighter the grouping but I dont think you will gain range.

In conclusion a good hopup rubber and nub combo, quality bb's will give you the range. Tighter bore improves your consistency and a slight fps boost.

My plan was to replace the stock (363mm x 6.08) barrel with a 363 x 6.03 but then I got to thinking about adding the mock suppressor to cover a longer barrel, say a 407 or a 455 in length. However I don't want to add a cosmetic improvement that would result in a performance disimprovement.

Confusing stuff this technical upgrading mullarkey!

407 will defo be fine I reckon, I honestly could not tell you as to whether it a 455mm will hinder performance I'd imagine not but could be very wrong.

Well when you take up a hobby you have to learn the in's an out's of it, I love the technical side of it, still learning more and more bits every now and again but most of what I picked up has been from here on this forum asking questions like you have.

Like you, I'm always interested in going deeper into the techie side of things. I took up flying model airplanes years ago that were bought off the shelf but later progressed to building my own. Much more satisfying I think.

As for airsoft, well apart from my M4, my STG44, GR15 and now my TM M14 are all second hand. I plan on slowly tinkering with them to improve them bit by bit. Might make some mistakes along the way but hopefully I'll avoid the "big" mistakes with the helpful advice on here.

I have replaced the standard 363mm barrel with a 455mm 6.03 barrel in a Raider and the FPS increased by 25+FPS
Luckly it was still just under the llimit as it was less then 300fps to start with
