Thinking of taking them up on there 1000 euro for under 30s offer. Anyone here a member if so how do you find the club, time sheets for comps and general play in evenings, and up keep of the course. Played it before a few years ago and was very impressed.

Can't give any advise as never played the course but did try and join this year on the same offer but having breached the age barrier by a couple of years there was no dice played. Couldn't justify the €2k price tag for full membership so told them I'd have to go elsewhere which they were fine with.
In terms of inquiries one aspect I wasn't thrilled with was that the main competition day was Sat. They were hoping to put on a few more Sun competitions this year with increased membership numbers so that may be something to bear in mind. Also the competition entry fees were a hefty €10 with prizes generally limited to vouchers for the club which I thought was poor.

I played Kileen last year and it is indeed a fine course. A few years ago €1000 would seem like a snip as an entry fee. But times have changed and now most clubs have no entry fee. What is more important is the annual sub. You will have to pay this every year. Have you checked out other clubs in the area.

As far as I know there is no entry fee it's 1000 for your annual subs if you are under 30 and 2000 if over 30. Unless I read it wrong but I thinks that's it.

That 30 . Is that age or handicap? If its age, are they breaking the law?

blatantly ageist. i would also think they could be challenged on that one. Different rates for 29 yr old and 31 yr old:confused:

ps i understand junenile rates etc..

tell that to the cinema, the zoo, funderland, the library and the zillion other things that have have different prices by age.
They are not discriminating by age, the give discounts to certain people based on age; everyone of the same age gets the same price.

it probably would be...but has nothing to do with the conversation about ageism...
Typically it would be for a different class of membership anyway and thus not discrimination.

I have played it a few times and it is indeed a fine course and if I lived within shouting distance, it would be a great choice for me. For 1K, you really cant go wrong. One caveat, it is in Nama but it is probably going to be there after all the fall-out simply on the basis of investment that went into it and the course/facilities quality. Even if you only get a few years out of it, it is cracking value.
If you live near, jump at the offer would be my call. I know a few members there and they love it. ( they all joined once the prices fell!)

    Cheers

    Peter
