I wondered if anybody could help me out with some information. I would like to go to america to teach art in either a community centre or a school. Im aware the job situation is bad globally ,
I am wondering if any of you have any information on how i would find out how to do this , i.e transferring qualifications or knowledge of schools, im also aware that the requirments differ state to state , another querey i have is what the qualifications in america generally to teach adult education , as far as i am aware you would need a primary degree for elementary and middle school education, and H Dip for high school ,

I currently will have a post graduate diploma in community arts education in June which entitles me to teach adult education in Ireland. But if I have to i will complete a HDip also.

I have some contacts in new york, an uncle who is a priest in california also a high school chaplin, who i will get the chance to talk to in 2 weeks yet none in art ed , i have a place to stay in nyc to get started etc.

Bottom line is I'm quite confused whether i should stick out my current Post graduate course in Community arts education ( which does not lead to an official teaching cert) but does qualify me to teach adult ed here with the teaching council. It entitles me to a graduate visa for 12 months upon finishing to enter the states and opportunity to look for employment in the community art or education sectors)
Or if it would better my chances by doing the H Dip in Art Education before deciding to head over

Just wondering if anybody is in a similar boat and can offer any advice

Do the H Dip if you can, Its tough to get a teaching job without it.

I used to do mosaic workshops with family support groups and addiction recovery groups before doing the H Dip but its tough going money wise even.

    The best of luck
