I found a mens Patek Phillippe watch. If someone has recently lost one or knows someone who lost one please send me a PM.

Needless to say in order to claim the watch the person would have to be able to conclusively prove it is theirs.

    Regards,

I see from your previous posts you have reported it to the Gardai as well. The world is a better place with people like you in it Fran426ft.

Very honest thing to do as a watch like that I'm pretty sure will hold huge sentimental value as well as monetary value to its owner.

Obviously I would love to be able to keep it but I feel I must at least try to find the rightful owner. Just trying to keep my conscience clear. :D

    A year and a day isn't it?

Very honest of ya fair play. Give it a month with signs or ads around the place and if no one comes forward enjoy your new watch!

That's what I've heard but unfortunately the watch has been damaged from being out in the rain for awhile so could do with repair sooner than that. To have this done right it would need to be done by Patek Philippe which as you can imagine would not be cheap.

So before the watch is completely ruined I'd like to be able to find the owner as if I had it repaired and the owner came forward I could be considerably out of pocket.

If damp has got at it, maybe stick it in a bag of uncooked rice as a stopgap measure. It'll take a lot of the moisture out of it. I'm so curious how a PF gets lost. You'd want to be mightily drunk or maybe a robbery and the scum didn't know what they had? Few scum would know much beyond Rolex and Tag Heuer.

If you brought it to a local jeweller and explained, they might do a basic but effective job of sorting the water ingress. If nothing else, they'd advise you.

    This might help

Contact Patek and see if the serial number shows it as legit.

Contact Weir and sons and Keanes if it's a newish watch, to see if they may have sold it and have the buyer on record.

I've already done both of those things. It's a 1950's watch so I'm trying to see if either have any recent service records.

Weir want me to call back during the week but said I'd most likely need to bring it in for them to check if they have any service history for it and I'm waiting on Patek to respond to my email to see if they have any records of a recent owner.

    I'm 100% certain it's a genuine PP watch.

Well the watch didn't have a strap so I'm guessing either someone was using it as a pocket watch and lost it or the strap broke without them realising. (unless the watch was outside much longer than I think and the strap disintegrated)

I removed the back and let the watch dry out but it's more the corrosion visible on the mechanism and the screws and the mold/mildew/watermarks on the dial that concern me.

Yeah will probably bring it to a jeweler if I don't find an owner.

Sounds like its been out a while. Mildew on the dial sounds like it's not a porcelain dial as many PF's had and have. So long as it doesn't crack it stays the same as the day it first came out of the kiln. still it might be and if it is can be cleaned to be as new. If it's not Patek will have new old stock dials anyway. If it has been out for a long time, I reckon you may have got yoursef a "free" Patek. fingers crossed :)
