I really don't think you'll get this answered in the LC forum.
How would you judge a 'better' degree?

Have always admired your cynicism Spurious.

Anyway dude go to NUIG, considered the best college for engineering to most. (Despite the aforementioned post, degrees can of course be measured)

And LC students would be the best to judge them.
OP do you want your query moved to the fora for the individual colleges mentioned so some informed people can comment?

See you have sarcasm in you too. But no to be fair I have done a fist bit of research and everyone seems to point to NUIG.

    Yes if you wouldn't mind

Well I did not study Engineering in UCD or NUIG but the most important thing to look for is making sure that the Engineering course is accredited by Engineers Ireland. The courses have changed to 5 years now including a 1/2 years Masters as far as I know.
Both universities run great engineering courses. Some of my friends studied Structural/Civil/Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering in these universities.
In my opinion I would choose a course in UCD, DIT or UL for Engineering.

Also it depends what type of Engineering you are interested in.

Actually OP, I'll move it to Engineering, kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
I'm sure you'll do fine wherever you end up.

    **edit
Thread moved from Leaving Cert. forum to Engineering.

    Electronic or mechanical

Have to agree. I have a few engineering degrees...one from Dublin and one from NUIG and I think NUIG is the better college for engineering.

Well tbh some employers will prefer different courses and universities. The new engineering building at NUIG is impressive. Have a look at the modules for each course and maybe attend the open days.
I would also recommend doing a course that has some sort of work placement built into year 3 of the course.
I studied Mechanical Engineering in DIT and really enjoyed the course. It was tough going though in parts.

NUIG have the new building (it is a fantastic building) and there is a 9 month work placement during 3rd year. Which branch of engineering are you interested in? There is also the undenominated stream where you choose your discipline after first year.

I plan on doing the undenominated stream, because I'm unsure, but I think I'll probably move into either mechanical or electronic after.

I'm a final year engineering student in NUIG and I would recommend coming here to do engineering. I'll say a few things hopefully they will help.

I would say definitely do an undenominated course in your first year (I did because I didnt know what branch I wanted to go into). Though you will be doing pretty much the exact same stuff as everyone else (I think they have a common year 1+2 now in nuig, wasnt like that when I started).

The new building in nuig is great, take it from me its a lot better than what was there before. But I wouldn't let a fancy building be the main factor in your decision.

The professional placement programme is great however and they try to make sure that everyone leaves college with some experience. They look for employers willing to take on their students. It is a 5-month april to august, not nine months as was posted above. I dont know whether the other colleges provide the same service or do they make you find your own placement. If your interested I think most of the mechanical students in my year got paid placements and most if not all electricals.

Like kevohmsford said they are trying to make engineers do a 5 year degree and come out the end with a masters, but another thing you should look at is wheter it is a 1 year or a 2 year add on for the masters. In galway they are going for 4+1 and you can leave after 4 years with a bachelors. I think in UCD they are doing it 3+2 so its worth looking at.

The best advice i can give you though is to ask any friends/aquaintances you may have that might have done engineering in nuig, ucd wherever and just try and draw from their experience
