    No, if you look carefully you'll see that the right main wheels touch down first, with the reversers deploying immediately

    Some aircraft do have the capability to use reverse thrust when no part of the plane is on the ground , Concorde the DC8 and some Russian aircraft are known to have used it . Concorde used it on two engines in a descent .

    I have to disagree, I think they deploy a fraction before the right gear hits the ground? Either way its interesting footage.

    The C17 is another aircraft that can deploy reverse thrust in flight. The downside is that if they deploy asymmetrically then it can be catastrophic. Unfortunately this has occurred.

    According to the attached wiki the C17 can get a ROD of up to 15,000ft per minute. Compare that with the 700fpm we do down a standard 3 degree glideslope into Dublin!

    The clamshells open before the mains are on the ground, just, so they can clearly be deployed in flight, but what's not clear is if the throttles are blocked from going above idle in reverse before the mains are on the ground.

    The only way to find that out will be to speak to a rated pilot, and finding one here in Ireland might not be too easy:D

    Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

    that's a normal operation for TU-154, take a look at this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFT0YO2CdM0

    AFAIK it works as a airbrake first, kind of like on BAe146. The reverser hits in only when the wheels touch the ground .

    That's crazy footage there, the clamshell deploys a good few seconds before touchdown.
