Honda FR-V pulling to left

Our Honda FR-V pulls to the left leading to rapid wear on the the outside of left front tyre.

We have had lazer tracking done on it but it hasn't helped.

Would anyone know what the problem could be and recommend someone who could fix it? I'm in the south east but would travel if I could be sure of getting it sorted.

swap wheels... left to right and right to left

    Thanks Erper

I've swapped them back to front, they are direction specific tyres so I'll need to get them changed over on the wheels. It helps in the short term but car still pulls which I'd love to get sorted.

Were all 4 wheels checked for alignment?
    Caliper siezed?
Remember that roads are usually cambered and the car will naturally tend to move left.

Make sure the wheels you put on the front from the back are balanced. Some tyre places only balance the front wheels. This won't cause the issue your experiencing but will cause a wobble in the steering at motorway speed.

    All four wheels were checked.

I doubt if it's a ceased caliper. Do you mean ceased so that the brake is always on? Wouldn't I notice that?

I was told previously about roads being cambered to the left but this (on my car) seems a little excessive. It could be it though.

    Thanks for the reply.

All for were definitely balanced when tyres were changed. Same place later did the alignment (of all four). Thanks for reply.

Any worn bushes, track rods etc? If these are worn it won't give an accurate result when tracking is done.

Did you get a print out report of the final setting after the tracking was done?

I've had 3 x Accords and 3 x Civics and they all tend to do that as well.....no matter where I've gotten it tracked. More a strong drift than pull to left though. I assume its mostly road camber on mine and I've been told (rightly or wrongly) that Honda are highly sensitive to road camber. Tyres haven't ever worn unevenly though.

I think Top Tyres in Ardcavan (Wexford) and Tom Geraghty Tyres (Waterford) are pretty good.

I can dig out the printout, I think. I'll post it here if I have it. I'll ask mechanic at next service about bushes, track ends etc.

    Thanks

Thanks for that. I had the tracking done in Top Tyres. Mine has a definite 'pull'. My right hand always has more pressure on the steering wheel.

I'll be asking them to change tyres around on the wheels as they are directional and I'll see what they say.

Are all 4 tyres the same brand and condition and did you have the full 4 wheel alignment checked? Some places will only track the front because that's the only adjustment your car has.

    Nissan Doctor,

All four tyres were bought together and are the same. After a few months with the new tyres I noticed the wear on the front left edge. I changed the tyres, back to front as they are directional, and had laser tracking done. I saw it being done and it was on all four wheels. It hasn't resolved it.

    Thanks

You need to check all if your steering and suspension components are loose etc

Does your FRV have electric PAS by any chance? If so, there is a small torque sensor at the bottom of the steering shaft that can sometimes stick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 511 ✭✭✭531

Thanks Landcrzr, it has PAS and I will get that checked out.

If you don't have a steering fluid reservoir then it is an electric setup.

    FR-V is hydraulic.

I misread the earlier post, thanks, it is obviously hydraulic rather than electric so. I'm no expert (obviously) but do some cars have electric PAS?

There can be fully electric, hydraulic and electro-hydraulic which is a combination of the two.

You'd be surprised by how many times wheel alignment issues are the cause even when people have had the tracking checked/done. Too many places only check the toe settings and don't check the full alignment readings.

...or in my case, the tosser who didn't even tighten up the lock-nut on my trackend, and couldn't understand why I was so irate when I returned, pointing at my kids in the car and how his negligence could have harmed us all. Needless to say, I called out the manager, showed him what happened, and got my money back. There really are some f**king idiots out there.
