Hi... Son has passed his test this week. We got some photos done today and we are going into the Motor Tax office on Monday.

    Question:
    1. Can we get sorted on the day i.e. fill in the forms, pay the fee, hand over the Compency Form and waslk out with the new licence??

    2. He needed a Cert from the Optician for the Provisional Licence. Will he have to get another one before we go into the Tax Office???

    Many thanks

No it has to be posted out to you, there are delays issuing the new licences at the moment also.

    First, congrats to your son.

Since 19th January or thereabouts, the Dept of Transport has taken over issuing driving licences, they're now a credit card style rather than the pink piece of paper. The motor tax office, as I understand it, will process the application, but will no longer issue the licence, so no, I don't think you can walk away with it. It's also going to cost more than the €25 you might be expecting (€55 I think).

Slightly better news, he doesn't need a new eye test.

Disco.... that's great!!! Thanks for that!!

Ya... another 55 yoyos. Thats the cheapest thing so far.... cost of putting him on insurance is my main worry!!!

Good to know that I don't have to give €25 to Specsavers for a another piece fo paper/ red tape!
