It is a 2001 Grant Engineering boiler with Riello RDB1 50/70.

9 rads 4 downstairs and are single no doubles.

    House was built in 2000

The boiler is under the sealed kitchen counter to the left of the sink.

You cannot flush just 3 rads. The whole system has to be flushed.

Take off the 3 rads and wash them out with a hose

With a flushing machine and cleaning chemicals only. Will cost around 500 to do it properly. Plenty of cowboys doing it for 200-250

    As Dtp79 says.
If my memory serves me correctly, did you ever manage to cut your work top to enable the boiler to be serviced?

Most carpenters didn't leave access to the tops of those boilers

Yes you asked me to call before & could do nothing as your boiler is a top servicing boiler & work top needs to removed to gain access. If memory serves me correctly the kitchen sink is in the same piece of work top so it needs to be cut for access now & for future access.

It will be fun servicing that boiler if the work top is sitting over it since 2001!

Hiya again. Well I need to get all the work done asap. Can you do the rads too?

Also I spoke to GE directly after you came last time, and they said my boiler could be serviced without removal of worktop.

I bet the pen pusher who told you that never got his hands dirty let alone serviced a boiler properly with the work top in place over it

My guess is that the boiler is a euro flame with top entry. Its impossible yo service a top entry boiler with a work top or anything over it either the complete work top needs to be removed or a big hole cut in it to gain access.

The boiler is encased anyway so the worktop makes no difference. I would take the advice I got from GE

Thats a bit like trying to service a car with the
Bonnet shut.you can get at somethings but not all.
Take good advise when given and your boiler will work better than ever.i have seen people cut the worktop over the boiler and put a hinge on it for future service .

Back to the original question a power flush of a heating system would set you back in the region of €400-€500 for the average 3 bed house.A full oil boiler service is around €70-€80 if Access to boiler is straight forward

I am a service engineer for GE & your boiler cannot be serviced the way it is. Who did you speak to in GE? The top cover of the casing comes off to acces the top servicing door to the boiler. All the baffles have to be removed & replaced.

I get what you are saying, but why else would GE be giving that advice. Surely they know the systems better than anyone.

Everything is easy on paper I'm afraid. Working in the real world and encountering real problems like this is another thing though
