Ok I am trying to sell a used set of alloy wheels on donedeal for what I think is a very low and reasonable price, but all I have been getting is mainly texts from complete and utter timewasters.

Last week I got a text asking me would I take anything less than the asking price to which I replied no, which was fair enough. Then I get a phone call from another guy who says he will come and collect them at the weekend, seemed genuine, and then I never hear from him again. I get another text on another day along the lines saying that " I am leaving now, I will take the alloys off you, can meet you in an hour" I reply saying that I am not available until such a time in the evening and I never hear back from him, and I tried texting and ringing him that evening but no reply

Then I get a text today asking will I take €60 for the alloys and I was so fed up I replied by saying "No, sorry I can't take less than asking price, if you can't stretch to another 15 euro, its hard is all I can say, they are already at rock bottom price" to which I get no reply, not that I was expecting one.

So what is your experience of selling on donedeal and timewasters in general, because I am fed up of it now

Link below to the alloys I am selling and please let me know if I am asking for too much / too little? Thanks

1/. Edit your ad. "No texts thanks".

2/. If anyone texts you, reply "call me please".

Try adverts it's great for selling all that stuff. I sold heater plugs on it only a few weeks ago got a great price for them too.

Yep I'm afriad its the baine of many people selling on donedeal but I'm afraid you'll most likely need to put up with a bit of it unfortunately if you want to sell the rims.

I was selling a tablet for my brother before Christmas and got more than a fair share of calls with people offering silly money and just acting the maggot basically. The item was in perfect condition, had a few small extras and was priced cheaper than any of the same models for sale on the site. I'd imagine you might be especially liable to get toss pots ringing you acting the maggot if your selling alloy wheels.

Similar scenario to yourself I had a guy ringing me pretty much demanding me to meet him at the crescent shopping centre Limerick in a few hours time with the tablet, ignoring or not even considering I lived a considerable distance from the Crescent and was doing something that I couldn't just up sticks and drive in. A foregin guy he was and he just seemed to act stupid or something. Just to note I'm not racist or anything but a few other foregin guys rang me and pretty much acted in the same manner. I think the trick is you just need to train yourself to keep calm and not get too emotional if someone rings or texts you taking the p!ss

If you can edit the add it might be worth adding NO TEXTS PLEASE at the end but you still might get messers ringing you

OP mentions time wasting and you tell him to go to Adverts :pac: Adverts is full of the biggest amount of time-wasters on the planet. Some of the stuff I have been offered when I am selling stuff would defy belief.

It's funny everyone says that about adverts. I have sold about 11 things on adverts in the last year ranging in value from 50 -1000 euro. And not Once did I have hassle with any time wasters. I think it's a great website most of my stuff sold within a week and the buyer came with cash collected every time. I must have been lucky. But as I said two weeks ago I sold heater plugs which had been sitting in our drawers for a good year.

Yes I have tried adverts.ie in the past and found it to be way worse for timewasters, could not sell stuff on there at all, which was mainly just PS3 games and a few other bits, but I now sell them on ebay which is way better even if there are fees involved, they are relatively low.

Just to mention to you also, assuming theres not buckles in them rims you are pretty much giving them away at that price. If I'd a mondeo or focus and was looking for new rims for her I'd have them snapped up in a shot:)

I'd have to agree and disagree with you in a way. I too have being very lucky using the site. Sold quite a few items on it and sold for close enough to my asking prices for me to be happy enough for what I shifted the items for. They all turned up pretty much at the time agreed bar one guy who got a bit delayed leaving work and was about 10 minutes late at max.....thats pretty unusual in this country in fairness. All examined the items and paid the price agreed, no haggling or that....sorted.

I think I done well on the site in fairness. Have had a few making offers that were just taking the p!ss but just replied no thanks and heard no more from them.

I do see threads where people are selling cars in particular and would imagine the seller muct be almost pulling their hair out with eidgets just making silly low offers, making offers and not replying back when seller accepts etc

€80 is too cheap for those wheels, some would think they were stolen. stick them up at €200 and see how you get on.

Adverts is not a place where I would try and sell a car tbh. My general rule for adverts is anything under 1k value advertise on adverts anything else I put on donedeal. You will always get a certain amount of stupid offers but once you say no you generally here no more. And I always add on abit to the price so I can take it off so when someone makes a reasonable offer it looks like I'm taking off money.

Fair points and I think your probably close enough to the mark in what you say there.

Same here. Mind you not too much extra. If its a pretty homogeneous item I tend to look at what other sellers are asking and price mine a wee bit lower but somewhat above what I'm willing to sell for...tis the way to go I reckon
