I got bought a present of a Samsung laptop from PC world in December and it was running fine when I got it. Now the past few days the processor which is supposed to be running at 2 ghz is only running at 900 mhz, so when I use Dreamweaver or Microsoft word its lagging really badly.

Now it is not anything to do with the power management because I have checked that several times, I have tested my CPU speed with cpu - id and also windows 8 task manager and both are giving the same speeds.

So if anyone has any ideas at all I would be really grateful because I have assignments due and can't really hand the laptop back over to PC world for them to take weeks to fix it.

You certain it is not clocking back up under load? Sounds like something may have home wrong with the cool n quiet motherboard feature on the motherboard , which is supposed to downclock the cpu when idle and increase it under load.

You could see if you can turn it off in the bios to see if that is the problem (if the option is there), but it will impact battery life.

Thanks I'll go have a look in the bios in a few minutes and check.

    Maybe this will help:
we discovered it was a Samsung preinstalled updater calld SW Update. For some unknown reason, that was underclocking the processor all the time, except in Safe Mode, where it didn't load. After uninstalling that updater and restoring the computer, all was well, and here I am, typing this while my processor runs around 2.5 GHz.
