Upgrading brake calipers (road bike)

I'm a little under-confident in the performance of the Shimano BR-R561 'long drop' brake calipers that came with my 10 month old Cube Peloton Race. I'm considering upgrading them but I'm unsure what would be a suitable upgrade and what exactly is involved.

The shifters are 105s so I don't know if that poses any compatibility issues and also if I am required to stick to 'long drop' type calipers?

Can anyone make any recommendations? Any advice is appreciated.

[EDIT] - I should also note that I have some swisstop brake pads on the way from Wiggle to see if they make any improvement and for now I'm just considering other options

I've read elsewhere that Ultegra/Force brakes are petty much the pinnacle of braking performance. Not Dura Ace or Sram Red as performance has been reduced by a compromise on weight reduction. Same as with Planet X or some of the really expensive carbon fibre calipers.

Bottom line I think 105 Brakes will be an upgrade and Ultegra will be an upgrade weighing slightly less as with Sram Force.

Don't do anything until you have tried the swisstop pads with your current brakes. They really are a considerable improvement on stock pads and will probably sort out the problem without spending money unnecessarily.

Thanks for the advice lads. Will certainly fit the swisstops and give them a run before I go about doing anything else. I have visions of them being such an improvement that I go head over heels first time testing them. I'll come back and let folks know either way.

I'd still like to hear if anyone knows whether I'd be limited to sticking with long drop calipers or not.
