Cycling Touring - Aran Islands

    Hey Folks,

I'm planning a tour around Galway and was hoping to include the Aran Islands. It looks like Aran Island ferries no longer take bikes :(

    http://www.aranislandferries.com/times_mor.php

    NB
Due to recent health & safety issues we can no longer carry bicycles on board the ferries. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused.

Does anyone know if there's another ferry company, or of any way to get a touring bike over to the Islands?

    Cheers.

Apparently they've set up a bike hire facility on the far side. Trying to coin it. Seems alot of people (cycle tourists) don't bother going over now. Shot themselves in the foot.
    Revenue looser.

Love to hear what the "health and safety issues" were! Definitely all about the bike hire.

    Yeah agree.

Like the Cliffs of Moher a few years ago, maybe 10 years or so now. Used to be free now you have to fork out for parking etc. Pulled up on the road outside the entrance for a laugh a few years ago, and one of the "parkies" started running over to shift me. No parking on the road. Come in and cross our palms with silver. lol no FO.

Very short sighted. I guess I'll take my business to Inishbofin so.

I've rented a bike on Inis Mór before - there's definitely the ability there.

Quite a few Touring Cyclists will include the Aran Islands as a possible destination. Its like arriving in Rosslare as you head to France and being told that you have to leave the car behind due to "Health and Safety Issues" and rent one the other side!

    Too fast Planet X !
