Caring for a stamp collection

My father passed away a few years ago and I took his stamp collection which he'd been collecting for many years. I've done nothing with it since. The collection consists of a lot of used stamps stuck intp albums and just shoved into plastic baggies along with several folders of first day covers. I doubt it's worth anything, so I want to sort it out first, but have no idea where to start.

The stamp collecting gene was not passed on unfortunately but I'd like to keep it for the next generation just in case one of the little blighters puts down his xbox controller for 5 mins and has a sudden interest in philately.

What's the best way to sort out a collection like this? Buy a load of stockbooks and just start filling them? Or are albums and those little sticky hinges a better idea? What about the fdcs, something like this?
