Malaysian airlines have some great offers at the moment, i just booked a flight from cork to bangkok return for songkran (thai new year) for a month,

I got it for €592 all in through ebookers, that's as good as i have seen return flight to thailand for a good few years.

Right there are 2 stopovers at amsterdam and KL but they are only for 2 and a bit hours each that doesn't bother me at all.

I would say if your looking to head to oz/nz it should be good also.

    Hi,

Just wondering, did you fly by Aer Lingus to Amsterdam? When arriving in Amsterdam, did you have to claim your checked baggage and check in again or the baggage was transferred directly to Malaysia Airlines?

The reason for asking is I will need a Schengen Visa if I have to claim my baggage at Amsterdam and this is not something I prefer to do.

    Thanks in advance.

If you're booked on the one booking (like the original poster describes) then no, you won't have to pick up your luggage. Aer Lingus will transfer it straight through.

Malaysia Airlines recently increased their baggage allowance to 30Kgs for economy class passengers as it was 20kgs before.

Has anyone got any recent experience with Malaysian airlines?

I'm going to Brisbane in July and the travel agents worked out the quickest route and it's with Malaysian airlines, after doing some reading on review sites and it's so mixed, some are great and some are awful, I don't want to fork out 3k for flights unless I'm guaranteed in flight entertainment.

I would never fly them again. Food was burnt/raw (yes same meal), screen wasn't working nor was overhead light. Cabin crew were rude.

They used to have a great reputation..not justified in my experience

Flew with them before great price but the standard of service has gone way down compared to other Asian carriers, you get what you pay for, but at that price I'd snap it up and try and sleep the majority of the flight, plus your bags go from here to your destination, Malaysian always seems to come out with the cheap tickets early..... Emirate and Turkish will drop there prices in due course but not as much as Malaysian, but they both are much better to fly with IMO, always try and get the two seats at the back or window seat so you can sleep against.

Ugh I was afraid of this. I'm traveling with a 6 year old child so there's absolutely no way I can survive 13 hours and then 8 hours without movies for her to watch. Glad I didn't book this today.

I don't understand how their website can advertise one thing and it seems to be what no body gets.

I am one of those who have had very good experiences with Malaysia.

Granted, a lot of their aircraft aren't that new, but I have always found the staff great. Also if flying a 777 they operate 2+5+2 which is great if you are travelling as a couple. Far better than others including Emirates who use 3+4+3. Leg room is also better than the competition. I have also found their food to be as good as others.
Generally their video on demand is not as good as the best, but adequate for me.

You didnt say where you were flying from, if through Heathrow you will more than likely be on a new A380, which is as good as it gets.

Kuala Lumpur is a good airport, quite stress free. Far better than Dubai.

They have some very good deals at the moment. There is a large group of approximately 14 of us travelling in SE Asia in the next month or so. Everyone has booked separately for various different dates and everyone is travelling with Malaysian. They now operate an A380 twice daily from Heathrow, and once daily from Paris

The flights I got for the money are great value for money. I managed to book a multi city flight starting from Cork to Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi, and return about a month later from Bali to Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam to Cork, all for €680. Was at least €300 cheaper than anyone else at the time of booking

Really looking forward to the A380 leg tbh, as it will be my first time on one. The return flight is on a 777 so will be interesting to compare. Malaysia are still a five star airline on skytrax, one of only six. This is ahead of BA and Emirates so I'm expectinga a decent level of service tbh

The flights they reserved for me are from Dublin to Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane return. My main concern is the amount of reviews I've seen with people saying that when they got on the flights that the screens were broken for the in flight films or that they were the really old school drop down screen that everyone looks at, one man posted that the in flight movies were two back to back Chinese films with subtitles, I'm traveling with a 6 year old child! I've found flights online with emirates 600 cheaper for the same dates, one extra flight but feck it.
