What do you make of these EBI value

Bought 2 dairy bull calves to put under Suckler cows that had lost their calves last spring sourced from a very good local Dairyman. It transpired later that hair samples were requested by the AI companies for both of them. But we missed the requests last year as they were being sent to the farm of origin. Decided to roll the dice and submit the hair samples ourselves a few weeks ago and the results were published today.
Will be looking to move the bulls on in the next few weeks.

My knowledge of Dairy breeding is limited so what do you make of these EBI values?
What would they be worth? (both are up around the 400kg LW mark.

Looks to me like fert figures are good but kgs fat and protein too low. These bulls are good for beef only IMO. Maybe some breeding guru could shed further light.

Nothing special but not very bad not good enough for Ai stations

Factory or sell as clean up bulls

The second bull has goodish percentages for solids

Was hoping they would be suitable as stock bulls. Yes/no?

Might be easier to read some screen shots of the report

    For tag 1663

these would make perfect clean-up bulls for heifers this year, and cows next year

I would agree with these two comments.

Do ye Dairy guys notice a significant improvement at farm level, since the EBI figures were introduced? I get the feeling that, a lot of beef guys have no faith in the ICBF beef figures (for beef cattle).

Ignorance is bliss. When Ebi first cane out every dairy farmer said it would be a fad that would last 3-4 years. Years on the farmers that adapted to the system are the ones that are constantly making more cent per litre profit. It is a slow progress but at least as an industry we are heading in the right direction

IMO beef is just like show ring cows- nice to look at but too much b''l s''t involved and no real value put on how much profit is actually made at delivering the finished product

    Stan,
That's good to hear. I'm a great believer in the figures. It will take a few generations of breeding to convince some beef people though.

Sound. Not knowing much about dairying I was struggling to understand the figures and know if the bulls would be worth bothering with for breeding. I'll put them up on DD in the next day or so and see how it goes.

Well i've one sold since last weekend:D
Would you believe it was a neighbor who got out of suckling last year and gone milking cow and we bought some of his cows last Oct... and we now selling up shortly and going contract rearing... world works in funny ways:cool:

Only a few silly people ringing about the other bull and wondering 'how much' before they even ask the EBI values or tag number to check for inbreeding.

I can never understand people trying to do a deal over the phone not having seed the stock:(.
