Was in quick need of a 2TB SATA drive so picked this up in my local PC World for €99.99.

The same model (EARX) is £83.90 or about €100 from Amazon, so definitely a good price for bricks and mortar.

Think that's a mistake on the PC World website..

.. every other website I've looked up says it's SATA-600.

.. and like I said, it's a good price for bricks and mortar.

Good deal from a bricks and mortar store alright. The caviar green drives are pretty slow. They are grand for home nas drives though which usually can't get the best performance out hard drives anyway.

Just be careful, particularly with NAS enclosures. Neither my LG or Synology DS212j would work with the green version, no problems with blue or black version.

Surprised Green wouldn't work as I think Blue are classed lower. Just ordered a 2TB Red version for my QNAP - started getting warnings on one of the existing so want to have one ready to go if needs be. Komplett was competitive against all and I am picking it up so no need to worry about it being battered in delivery. Lots of bad reviews on Amazon about drives being badly packaged and being DOA.

The blue is the budget 7200 rpm drive and the Green is the 5400 equivelant. The black and red are their higher end models of the same.

Surprised the green didn't work must have beel a strange firmware bug or something, because it should be fine for a NAS in principle.

Well the Green weren't on the list of compatible drives for both NAS, as I found out when the green wouldn't work.

I ordered one of these of dabs.ie for 105 inc delivery. Got it set up, but it would not let me format it. No matter what way I tried it. Going back tomorrow unfortunately. Hassle :S

Sorry if above sounds arrogant, I dont mean to be. Using a drive from an external drive is also sound advice, they are usually much cheaper as you found out...
