Wrong age on driving license

Anyone any knowledge of the following. A mate has a full Irish driving license for 20 years and it about to expire in the next month or so. Back in the day when he first got his provisional he lied about his date of birth and instead of being 16 said he was 17 his logic was that you had to be 17 to sit the driving test which he did when he was 16 and passed and has been driving ever since. When he last applied for his driving license almost 10 years ago he put his correct date of birth on the license application but the license came back with the incorrect age. He is concerned about the new license format and he wants to get the correct age on the license. His logic is that if he applies using his correct DOB and the license authority comes back and say you DOB is wrong, he can supply his birth cert and if they look up the previous application from 10 years ago it will show correct DOB or is he looking at a prosecution for supplying incorrect information if he pushes this.

It hinges on someone, pushing hundreds of licenses per day, taking the time to check that. And I doubt any automated system is going to pick it up. Its a simple edit in a huge database. I doubt they even have a record of what the previous date of birth / age was.

I'd just attach a letter saying that you want the date of birth and age changed. You'll probably have to supply a birth certificate as well.

However, he did lie and supply false information on an official government form. So if it was noticed, could prove it and someone was bother to bring it to court they probably could get a conviction out of it.

Just say it was a mistake made by them years ago. They won't still have the form....

Thanks all, good idea to include the birth cert with the application. Application is due end of March. Fingers crossed he gets his new license.

He Lied, HE LIED, LET HIM BURN IN HELL. THE 12 HIGH HORSES OF SATAN ARE COMING TO GET HIM. He should be banned from driving and made re-sit his test 17 times and maybe then he can get a learner permit...

Only joking, just blame them, not a major biggie now as it is a long time past. Doubt it would have been fully computerised back then.

Seems a bit silly to lie about your age on a licence. But having said that, like others have said, simply send the birth cert or a copy of the passport and ask them to correct it. They get DoB's wrong all the time.

In 2009, they had one of mine from 17 years previously - it was kind of scary that they had...

I agree though, it won't be a big deal.
