    Hi all,

You may have heard about it already, but for any swords residents with ties to the defence forces, whether PDF or RDF or formerly FCA, the Sluagh Hall army barracks beside Fingalians GAA club, home for over 70 years to A Company 65 Battalion (RDF 2005 - 2013) and before that B Company 7 Battalion (FCA and LDF since 1940s) is closing its gates for the last time.

Once this takes place it will bring to a final end, all military ties Swords has had with our armed forces over the last century - barring maybe future St Patricks Day parades.

Small note but Sluagh Hall swords is the last Dublin barracks, north of the river liffey, except for McKee beside the phoenix park.

Its being closed due to the reorganisation of the Reserve Defence Forces and its members will now be splitting up and moving to a number of different locations such as Navan, McKee and Cathal Brugha so it will be the last time we will be together in this fashion other than commemorations in the future.

A closing Ceremony will take place at around 11am in the grounds of the barracks that morning if you know any former members can you please let them know?

There will be a couple of events organised on the morning and all with ties to the company and barracks are welcome.

    Is mise le meas

    Sad to see it close.
Spent many a good evening there in the 1980s using the indoor range.
