Stupid question i suppose, but bought a van yesterday. the tax and doe are both up. the doe is up today. but apparently you cant doe it without the log book, which was only sent away yesterday to change details etc.
so no way i can go to the motor tax office and get it taxed is there without it being in my name? do the guards overlook this if you are caught driving to the doe centre for example with no tax?

    thanks

They wont tax it without a DOE.

They wont tax it without a DOE.

the DOE is still valid today though, just not in my name does that make a difference?
or at least i think it is. it says expiry is the 8th. maybe that was midnight last night

You may be ok. But youd need to fill in the previous owners details on the renewal form.

Much easier to just wait and do it all when you have the VRC back. I cant see you having an issue if you just tell the Gards you only bought it if stopped.

You can do renewals online nowadays. I don't know anyone that posts their tax renewals. It's a last resort imo.

I don't find it a big ordeal tbh. Get VRC in your name, fill out form , get it tested, tax it.

Easiest thing would have been to get the seller to stick 3 months tax on it.
before he sent the VRC off.But that options gone.

Double check the terms & conditions of your insurance before driving the van without a valid DOE. I've heard that having no DOE can invalidate all cover for a VAN.

When you do eventually get the logbook and DOE you must then go to the tax office and pay another 8 euro I think to get a DOE cert!!

My brother in law put his van back on the road last year, as well as fannying around getting the garda stamp, the tax office wanted him to go back the DOE centre to get a form signed and stamped with the details of the transporter that took the van to the DOE centre for the test!!

Seems that unlike the NCT, you can't drive a commercial with no DOE to a pre booked test. The girl in tax office was embarrassed at the extra bureaucracy and the DOE tester thought it was a joke, we just put the number down of our Land Rover and he stamped it.

dont fill in the other owners details that is one way to get charged with fraud..book the van in for its test allowing enough time for log to return..the test been out a week or 2 wont matter
