Windows 8 wont boot, restore or refresh

Had some issues after an installation of windows 8. Store would not open, apps would not load etc. Decided to do a restore as it is quite a new laptop and I do not have much data on it. Restored pc and got an error that the restore did not complete. Have tried refresh, restore again, and now it is looking for the media cd.
So I cannot boot into anything

Has anybody got any ideas on how I can rescue the situation?

Jesus why did I bother with this "upgrade".

If it makes any difference it is a dell 14z with a 32gb ssd and 500gb hard drive. I do not have a recovery cd or usb drive as I did the install through the upgrade assistant. The pc did not ship with a cd either.

It's hard to say but it could be a faulty SSD or hard disk.
