    Notable cars of 1993

    Citroen xantia,
Pretty much replaced the xm and xantia, highly regarded and quirky

    Ford mondeo
Replaced the ageing sierra and became the definitive Garda car

    Renault Laguna
Fair enough, it was released in the last few days of 1993, but it doesn't even seem like 19 years ago

    Seat cordoba
THE car to have if you wanted a huge boot and no rear legroom

    Peugeot 306
Felters favourite and still remarkably fresh looking right up till its replacement.

    FIAT Punto
First car I ever had, so much style for such little money

    Quite a big year then,

    I feel so old now

Biggest surprises there from my point of view, are the Xantia and the Punto.

Fiat Coupe was also launched in 93, which is even more shocking (like the Laguna, it didn't really sell till 1994 but still...)

I've seen 3 Fiat Coupes today, 1st time in I don't know how long. Two '98 and one '97. I have a '97 Laguna and I'm the only one in my local motor factors who gets parts for the original one now. Have it almost 10 years.

Subaru Impreza that year too.....

Some good cars there and models that blew it all with their respective 2nd generations. I'm thinking the Punto and Laguna in particular. The 1st gen Laguna was a very good car, see still quite a few on the roads actually.

And how could one forget the sweet 306 replaced by the stodgy 307. Horrid car and a real low point for the big Lion. Thankfully things looking up again with the new 508 and 208 after ten years of junk.

Production of the Sierra Cosworth ended the previous year. :(

    I'd love a Cossie.

I loved the last of the line sierras, a neighbour had a 92 sapphire saloon, its amazing how right the facelift looked considering when the original was launched.

Friend has a 2.0 with cosworth exterior, still looks great.

    Hit and miss.

Not 20 years ago, but I remember back in 1999 when I started working in a restaurant I was sent around all the tables asking if anyone owned a Rover 600 as there was one blocking an entrance outside.

Everyone second table said "A Rover 600? I wish!". :pac:

Nothing at all wrong with those rover 600s, especially the honda powered versions. Fine comfortable and reliable cars imo.

The xantia on the otherhand are a balls of sh*te imo. horible, horible awkward cars to work on. The only thing of note about them is their comfort, which quiet good imo.

I think you missed my point. Hit and miss means some yes, others unfortunately no. You have to admit for a car changed over on a shoe string budget it was alright.

Personally I wouldn't be into xantias but I do appreciate the activas.

No I didn't, but yes I agree some(rover petrol engine versions) aren't that reliable. The engine line up however consisted of mostly honda engines and most sold were the reliable honda powered versions.

The only petrol rover engine that was in 600s was the t series turbo, nothing at all wrong with that lump to be fair, the 2.3 Honda unit was dirt in comparison, not that any of the Honda engined 600s could or shouldbe compared to the 600ti, the pg1 gearbox was the weakness on t series powered cars.

Agreed. I spotted a 2.3 on dd recently.

As regards them being hit and miss I have to agree. Wrong price for a starts and interior space always disappointed me. Very thirsty too.

As ever with Rover, it was almost right

FD3S RX7 (series 6) is around since late 91. The design has aged well.

Subaru Vivio was born in 93 also, a good lookin little car for the time too i think.
