I know this has probably Been done a million times but I couldn't find a link relevant.

I am entitled to 3 uncertified sick days in a year. I'm pretty sure I won't make it into work tomorrow as I feel like death warmed up.

My question is, because its a Friday, will the weekend be counted as sick days as well? therefore I would need a cert as a 3rd consecutive day out would require a cert.

Or would it only be required if I miss Monday also, therefore counting the weekend?

In other words, is a Friday counted as one day out or three??

    (It's a mon-fri job if that's any use)

    Thanks.

( I will go to doc if its required , but I know it's flu and there's nothing he can do for me)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! ;)

You will only need a cert if you are sick on Monday also. Otherwise it's just one sick day.

    Thanks a million!!!
I'm just against doling out 50e to a doctor that can only prescribe bed and rest as a cure. Plus I know ill be fine for Monday.
    Thx again!!

Are you sure about that? In the public service, if you are out sick on a Monday or a Friday, you must submit a medical cert. And surely the private sector cannot be far behind?

It will depend on your contract (I suggest reading it) but employers can and do count weekends/days off. The reason is it's much more likely people will be 'sick' on a Monday or Friday (Well the start and end of any working week).

Yes - if you are in the public service you will require a cert for each day absent, i.e. if you work Mon to Fri and return to duty on Mon you will have to provide a cert for 3 days.

It depends on your contract, but *generally* a Friday or Monday is considered one day off. Then again, some places require a cert for any day off.
check your contract OP - if it specifically says you need a cert if sick on the day immediately preceding or the day immediately after a weekend or public holiday then that's that. If there is no mention of this, and only the standard cert required for periods of illness of 3 days or more, then you're fine.
