Hey wondering if anyone can help me . I bought a car 6months ago from a garage . I only got 3 months warranty with and it has run out . The engine has seize in the car now in the last week . I got a mechanic to have a look at it and he told me the engine has seized and turbo is gone . There is only 150 k on the clock and it's a diesal . The mechanic also said it had Been in a crash before as the whole front was repaired . The garge never told me this when buying . Where do I stand and what should I do .

As far as the engine failure goes, you're on your own.
Unless the garage knew the car was crashed and told you it wasn't after you asked, and unless you can prove all of the above, then you're not going to get far.

Steve, maybe ask in Consumer Issues in Biz > Consumer > Consumer Issues, you might get better help there re the car being crashed before and you not being told.

Sounds like a serious case of oil starvation. When did you last check the oil level? When was it last serviced?

3 month warranty. Bought 6 months ago. Hardly 'just out of warranty'. The warranty has expired. As Colm said, you'll need to prove it otherwise you may chalk it up.

Is it a VW/Audi/skoda with the 2L pd engine?

Engines don't just seize. Turbo's don't just blow up. They rarely happen both together unless its a serious case of maltreated and mis-service. It also wouldn't take 6 months to happen with no prior warning if the car was on its last legs.

Unless you have something that literally says 'Car never crashed' and the car can be irrefutably proved to have been crashed, you don't have a leg to stand on. And 3 months outside warranty is well outside the warranty. I'd consider 2 weeks 'well outside' a warranty period. Most dealers would honour it out of customer relations but people have to realised they have no legal obligation to if you signed on the dotted line and everything else was above board (i.e. Not mis-sold, misrepresented etc)

People are very quick to shift blame and find a scape goat when it comes to finding problems with cars, its your responsibility when buying a car to insure its exactly as it seems, you have the option to have the car checked out by a mechanic or panel bearer, and to do a background check for accident history or outstanding finance. I think its irrelevant now.

Its also your responsibility to maintain your car, I dont have the facts but it sounds to me like you done no more than sit in and turn the key, maybe Im wrong ?

Can you give some history on the car ?
Was it serviced and what did that service cover ?
Who did the service were cheap oil and filters used ?
Do you do weekly checks for oil, coolant ect ?
