I dont really know much about the place but ive a chance to buy a house there for cheap and dont want to miss out on it at the price im getting it at.

Great town for both GAA and Soccer, no gyms in Ballymote. I live a couple of miles outside the town, pubs are great for a few pints. I am not able to comment on the estates but I have a few friends living in the town and have no problems. Where is the house, there is one estate with a bad rep in town alright, there was a thread on here a year or so ago

    Born and raised there.

It's not a bad town. Avoid Hill View drive and Tower Hill I think it is. It's beside the graveyard and knackers have it uninhabitable. Not exactly PC but true.

I loved the town park, it's a great place to walk a dog or have a run in.

The house was actully in towerhill! Im sitting here wondering would it still be a good investmet, rent it out to one of them and hopefully the estate will be alot better in 10 yrs and sell on then when the property market is abit better

There is a reason it would be bought for less than 30k

There was an end house in Hill View drive that would be easier to turn money on,, not sure if its still available.

    www.daft.ie/1657628

This wouldn't be a bad option and I have some info that it would be bought for considerably less. Good area, well finished and brand new

Can you tell me the history behind this estate. It looks to me that it hasnt been there that long and i would have thought all the houses would be owned by good decent working class folk

@Blops2013...a quick google will get you a few pointers.

Terror rules in Ballymote estate: From Sligo Today: 6/7/11

"Cllr Pat McGrath (FG) has called for an urgent meeting of the residents in the Tower Hill estate which he says has suffered with anti-social behaviour over recent months.

Although he has not singled out any particular residents, an influx of traveller families would appear to have coincided with the escalation of crime and unrest within the modern estate of 80 houses.

The private estate, directly adjoining the cemetery at Carrownanthy, has always been a quiet haven for young families, it's only problem being the dumping of litter at the environmental bottle bank by non-residents, which was resolved some years ago.

Yesterday, SligoToday.ie visited Tower Hill and spoke to some residents. Wishing to remain anonymous one family explained, "We have lived here for a few years, there were never any major problems until the travellers moved in, there's gangs of them down at the end now, its not safe to leave the kids out anymore. They're kids are real s**m, they don't give a f**k about anyone." the thirty-something housewife continued, "I think the council took over these houses and gave it to these people and ruined our lives, let some of the council workers come and live here and see what we have to put up with. We rent this house and we're looking for another [house] in the town."

Other residents said some families had already left with more to follow, "This estate will soon be full of them [travellers] then it'll be a no-go area for the guards. They want to live beside the graveyard where lots of them are buried. On traveller funeral days, the place is packed with guards, then we don't see them anymore."

There are also unconfirmed reports of drug dealing and fighting in the area.

SligoToday.ie was shown into the graveyard where graves have been vandalised and items like brass urns and vases have been stolen. "Some younger ones come in here at night taking drugs and drink and damaging graves," said a young father, "I can't say its the travellers but it strange that their big marble graves stones and decorations are never touched."

In the cul-de-sac at the end of the estate about 10 men stood in a group, "If you're thinking about going down there, I'd think again if I were you," the ominous warning came from the weary young mother.

    It is hoped that
a meeting can be arranged shortly."...

You'll get the house rented out ,but you probably won't get any money and the house will be smashed.Maybe i'm wrong and it could work out fine, and you'll get good tennants.
Theirs alot of desent people trapped their with morgages.
