Cycle for suicide awareness

hello all, Last year a group of us organised a cycle in the killarney area for the purpose of raising funds for south west counselling services in the memory of the late Stephanie O Sullivan. We raised 17.5k which was a great amount but this year we are going to try and improve on that total.

This years cycle is to be held on the 2nd of june, Routes and start, finnish have yet tobe finalised which brings me to why i am here. Well i have been told that some boardies participated last year and what we are looking for is some feedback and any ideas and suggestions on how to improve on our cycle. Or any imformation from guys on here that may help us going forward as we feel this is a very real issue in this country and we all know of someone that has been effected by suicide.. All we hope to do is raise awareness by raising some much needed funds for these organisations to help them help all of US. Thank you for reading and hope it was not too longwinded.

Stephanie was a beautiful vibrant young lady who would light up a room upon entering it, who at the age of 20 left us, left us in turmoil and i suppose this is our way of keeping her alive, hope you understand what i am trying to say.

I think the distance was ideal as it allowed many locals to enter that would normally not take part in such a cycle.

The only problem I saw lasy year was the sign on, I know the numbers took ye by surprise, but it was a bottleneck at Cloon, parking was an issue with people parking on the main road.

Good luck with the event this year, great cause.

yea cloon was a bottleneck for sure, as you stated we were not quite expecting the number we got (470 approx). this year we are thinking of starting at killarney country club (faha court) then milltown, killorglin, killarney farranfore, milltown and back to faha court, which is roughly 73km,shorter route would stay same as last year, 35km approx. what would your thoughts be on this? nothing in stone yet just mulling a few ideas around.any other thoughts would be much appreciated.

Never been to Faha Court, but would it have enough parking for cars (would 200 -300 cars be expected), if not, parking on the road would cause gridlock on a minor road.
I suppose things to consider are.
    1. Safe route
    2. Plenty of parking
    3. Showers would be a great bonus for people travelling.
    4. Facilities for food after.

    3. ideas to consider.
    1. Sign on at main Laune Rangers pitch on the Glenbeigh, overflow parking in Boyles (if they are not open on a Sunday)
    2. Sign on in Milltown/Castlemaine pitch, overflow parking in Mart.
    3. Start in Killarney

Also, checkout http://www.cyclingireland.ie/Home.aspx for other leisure events, the Kingdom Alliance 3 day sportive is on in Tralee that weekend. tkas.ie

thanks for advice,,following on from our discussions we have decided to start from milltown pitch , their will be 2 routes 40 k and 80 k , finishing in milltown
and weather permitting will be a outdoor barbecue with music supplied, if weather not good then indoor facility will be provided for food etc, hopefully anyone who can support this very worthy cause will do so . thank you.
