I will be sitting my junior cert next year but right now I am in second year. It is nearly mid-term and I just want to know when is it best to start studying for the summer exams. I am aiming for mostly A's this time and I want to improve in some subjects. Any tips on when to start and how to start. Thanks:)

Don't worry about your summer exams, have some fun while you have time left. Third year is flat out, I'm doing my mocks now and my last are tomorrow, studying the night before has done me fine so far. But for junior I wont because I too want A's... I should get A's and B's in the mocks.

It depends on wheter you're capable for cramming or not, I can do it well. So what I'm saying is, study in a way which suits you.

For JC I recommend starting in December so you can get a headstart on the mocks.

don't worry about summer exams, they're not important now!

Last year in my summer exams I started studying only about 2 weeks before they begun and I got something like 5 A's 2 B out of the 9 subjects I sat. I wouldn't be worrying about them now, but if you ever have the motivation to study, take advantage of it

Any bit of study you do will only benefit you. Just go over anything you don't understand 100%. Ask a teacher or someone for help if you need. It'll not only stand with you in the exam, but more importantly next year.

Maths is such a tricky one to study. You can't just learn off things for maths. It's all down to practice. Truth be told, I was a straight C student in maths until this year. I'm not sure how or why but when I got into Third Year everything seemed to click into place, and I'm doing much better now! Maths is one of my less worrying subjects now!

What I did was get a new copy for revision. Chapter by chapter in your books go through the revision problems until you get them right. If you're having trouble ask a teacher after class. Keep going over problems and eventually they'll just stick in your head! I use flash cards as well in Maths. I take down an example of each type of problem, that I can look at when I'm doing my revision problems until I don't need to look at it anymore.

    Best of Luck! :)

Hey guys, i need some help here about studying. I have just over a week until my Mocks start. However, even though they are that close, i can seem to study properly. I just go to my room and study for like an hour or half an hour and then i start procrastinating. All through 1st and 2nd year i have never studied and not to sound you arrogant here but i am a pretty smart guy, i usually get like 8-10 A's of my 11 subjects. The problem is now i don't really know how to study effectively and to stop procrastinating.
Any help would be much appreciated

It depends on what type of learner you are. Take a free online test and answer truthfully. It should tell you what type of learner you are and give you tips on how to improve.

    Here's one : http://www.vark-learn.com/english/page.asp?p=questionnaire

Try that, and it should give you tips on what type of learning best suits you. You'd probably get better advice on here as well if people knew what kind of learner you are.
