05 New Model (B6) Passat Gearbox/clutch noise

    Hi, started noticing a noise/judder when engaging first gear on take off. Not felt through any of the other gears. Took it to garage today who didn't seem to understand the problem apart from suggesting the clutch may need replacing as a "lot of shiny metal showing there". They advised me to take it to a Clutch and gearbox specialist.

    Seen elsewhere on forums that this First gear noise/judder can sometimes be attributed to condensation on the dual mass flywheel.

    Anyone else experience anything similar, and could anyone recommend anyone good/cheap in the North Dublin area who could look at this?

    Is it petrol or diesel?

    Hi Nissan Doctor, its a 1.9 diesel 5 speed. Noise/judder now through other low gears, always when releasing the clutch.

    Sounds like the DMF may be the issue unfortunatly, although its impossible to be certain without hearing the noise.

    If you are anywhere near Drumcondra I can have a look at it for you FOC.

    I had the same thing happen with my Passat, noise started in first gear and then after a few months could be heard every time the clutch pedal was half way between floor and drive regardless of what gear you were selecting !.. Got a New Dual Mass Fly Wheel kit for around €380 i think, and problem sorted when fitted. Unfortunitly This problem was closely followed by the Turbo packing in and then the Head Gaskit !.. When it rains it pours as they say !.. :P
