    Hello All,

I've been looking at a 1960's UK car that has probably been in the country for the past 5/6 years and is still wearing its UK plates.

I like it, its in my price range, but what will the story be when I go to VRT it and get a luvly( :D ) ZV reg??

Im not trying to avoid VRT, but I don't want buying it and getting hammered either - anyone been here and worn the t-shirt??

€200. Get a dated receipt, from a UK seller. Write your own if you have to...

Just make sure you have the V5 and not Export cert, the Export cert has the date on it and that's the date they will use as I found out to my cost recently.
The converse of that is if you lost;) the V5 you could apply for an export cert and it would have a recent date on it.

once you have a reciept you are only libel for any charges after that day at that its something stupid like .01% a day so not a lot on 200e..
export doc is fine to register wont make any difference

It will make a difference if the date on your makey up letter is different to the date on your export cert, they will use the export cert date and disregard the letter, I'm not sure about the v5, maybe they're clamping down?
I brought a pick up truck in to the NCT to register just before christmas and got stung for another €365 on top of the €200 I thought it would be. its .1% of the set VRT amount per day, it too had been in the country for 5 years so it does add up, that was me christmas money gone:mad:

Just to make it clear, that's zero point one for those reading on mobiles. In the case of a fixed 200 EUR, that's 20 Eurocent per day.
