Just wondering if anyone has had dealings with with Planet X ireland and what was their experience like.

I rang them re purchasing an SL pro bike. The guy i spoke to wasn't at the office at the time so he said he would call me back on his return to discuss sizing etc. Never got a call back, so next day i sent them a message via their webpage, including body measurements, and asked them to call me. But no call came.

I rang them again a day or so later. i explained to the guy that i had spoken to one of his colleagues previously. He said he would have his colleague call me 'definitely after lunch', but still no call came. I wrote another message via their webpage but still haven't heard anything back. You'd swear i was trying to get money off THEM!

Maybe this was a once off, but I don't think i will be buying from them, which is a pity as the SL pro seems like a good deal. If the service is like this when i'm trying buy something what will it be like if I problem down the line?

Not really arsed typing it all up, but I completely agree. I, personally, have no interest of ever using them again, and I won't recommend them to anyone I know. If you want to buy an SL Pro, you're as well off buying from the net.

My job uses www.biketowork.ie so I'm restricted on which shops I can purchase from.

In interest of balance I've never had any problems dealing with them. Bought my bike over 2 years ago and was dealing with a guy who has since left. Plenty of other guys in the club have them and I haven't heard any complaints. We are local though and we are sponsored by them so may be a bit biased. I do drop in there occasionally and have have picked up the odd few small bits and pieces but never got them to order in anything so don't know what there like on that end.

There is nearly always other customers in there when I've been in and just one guy working so I can understand why they can't always get to the phone. It is bad form not to return calls and emails though when they say they will. I'm sure there must be odd quite spell when they can.

I have heard a few people have similar problems recently with getting talking to someone/getting a return phonecall. What about sending an email?

Similar to previous poster i bought off them 2 years ago, when i was dealing with Marc, who was very helpful and efficient at returning calls etc. He has since left, and the service level seems to have dropped! They must be losing lots of business as a result of tardy responding and frustrated customers, foolish of them.

As for the bikes, mine usually responds pretty well!

I had same trouble with them last year, absolutely brutal service. Got the SL Pro online with less hassle. Great bike.

I got my Planet X Uncle John from them on Bike to Work and paid up front .Delighted with bike and service .They were absolutely 100% reliable in sending me on my 'refund' cheque when paperwork was processed by the penpushers-which was a relief as they were a fairly new outfit at the time !I was told recently their two main staff guys were away on hols until next Monday so maybe try then?

On behalf of Planet X Ireland I must apologise for our communication issues in the past while. Combined phoneline and Website issues out of our hands, understaffing and the extremely busy period has caused problems and some requests have fallen through the cracks. Please be assured that we are as always committed to offering a quality service along with the best value bikes out there. We have recently installed a second line to cope with demand.
If you ever experience a slow response in the future please contact me directly on fox.morgan@yahoo.ie
    or
    pjmnolan@gmail.com
We will ensure that your request is answered.

    Regards,

Kinda dragging up this thread again but question on pricing. I posted a question up on the website and it looks like it got taken down for some reason.

Looking to get an RT-57 but the Rival version on the planetxireland website is €400 more than the one on the UK site. When I got no response from the Irish website I contacted the UK one and they said it's nothing to do with them which is fair enough.

Anyone any ideas why it's such a price difference?

Error on the page, slightly different spec, currency conversion issue. They could be many reasons.

Why not just call them and ask them. If you think the reason is reasonable and happy to pay the extra then do, otherwise ask them to match the UK price. If they don't but on-line.

I've tried calling a few times and got no answer hence why I put it up on the website. Different spec I can understand but I'm hoping it's an error on the page as the advert link on stickbottle references RT-57 force for €1750 but on the planetxireland site it's RT-57 rival for the same price. The Force on the uk site comes in at about €1700 but the rival is €300 cheaper.

I've no problem buying online but would prefer to buy from a local business. I know it's not exactly local to me but you know what I mean.

if you send a message to Morgan Fox he will be able to tell you but i am fairly sure if it is available on UK site they will at least match it

On the other hand, do you want to buy from somewhere where you are having such a problem getting in contact? The main advantage of LBS is the ability to talk, sort out issues. You seem to have already chased them up about the price, they don't seem interested (I am assuming you have left a message if there is that facility).

Imagine what they may be like if you have an issue!

Tried to buy another bike of them in the last few weeks. I 'd prefer to give my money to an Irish company but ended up ordering from the UK again due to lack of replies again .

Got my first planet X bike from the UK some years back. Everything was as expected, great bike.

Got my second (a TT bike) from the Athlone office a couple of years ago. Wheels and front/rear mech were different to what was specified. Unfortunately didn't spot this when collecting it so ended up doing the drive from West Clare to Athlone twice and in an old Hiace this is a fair bit of fuel (and time). They also claimed same price as UK but the exchange turned out to be very generous in their favour. No problems with bike but the process of obtaining it was not something I'd want to repeat.

Next purchase from Planet X was 60mm deep section wheels and this was back to the UK. Everything as expected

With Athlone I felt at the time that wasn't proper cross referencing between what was ordered (via email at the time) and the build.

Recently ordered a bike from Rose. Had to wait for it which I knew in advance but everything was as specified and there was a lot of specifics. Their quality control system works (as I would typically expect from a German outfit).

In future, unless I was living close to a bike shop I'd do the online thing.

Said I'd add my own comments on the whole PX Ireland experience. First off, their website is brutal, I posted queries up there but never got any response from them. At the time I was looking for an On One Pompino, they were cheaper than PX UK, but it was a picture of the old model they had up, so I ordered it. Left it for a few days, but no delivery, so I made contact with PX Ireland (it was difficult at the start - sent an email, got a response back saying that the person didn't work at PX anymore and to contact them by phone). Dealt with Damien, it turned out that it shouldnt have been up on the website at all as they didn't have them in stock, but in fairness to them, they got the frame from UK for me and shipped it to me. It did take a while tho, there were other issues ie Damien was off (fractured ribs), and he was dealing with it, no one else. Have to say, tho, Damien was great to deal with, no bs, he was honest and upfront about reasons for delays. One small moan tho - when it was finally being shipped, i was told that they would throw something in to make up for the delay - when it arrived, all that was in the box was the frame.

As regards the shop in Athlone, I've been there, found the service very good, the frame I was interested in looking at wasn't in stock but they gave me advice on sizing - when I had emailed UK they told me to go for the small frame size, PX Ireland said medium - they were spot on.

I've mixed views on PX Ireland, on the one hand, they did sort out the frame for me, but had to make more calls then I received in order to get it sorted. Would I buy from them again, in the shop probably, online most likely not.

Someone needs to grab the Irish (franchise?) by the balls and get it on track. They sell some seriously good stuff but everything else after that seems to be flawed :/
