Question: Jobseekers Benefit Form

    Hi All,

Im unfortunately for the first time in my life having to apply for Jobseekers Benefit. I was in the process of filling out the form online yesterday and I got down as far as the Co-Habiting section... why is it relevant for Jobseekers Benefit how much money my Girlfriend is making? Do I actually have to fill this section out?

The detail seems a bit unreasonable. I could understand it if she too was unemployed and I was looking for extra money but that is not the case.

    Thanks.
    Fionn

Depending on her income you might be able to claim an increase for her or any dependent children. The form should be completed in full.

Thanks, its a bit in depth for a co-habiting situation, I could understand it if we were married... but then the government rarely makes sense.

The Jobseekers form is kind of a dual form, e.g. covers both JSB & JSA,
application, and the reason for this is that some people may only qualify for a part Benefit payment, as its 'earnings related' and may be better off claiming JSA if they would pass the means test, and this may give them a higher or full rate.

Further down the form there is a section where you are asked, 'if you don't qualify for full rate JSB do you want to be assessed for JSA'

    thats my understanding of it.
