Need advice on towing company

I wrote off my car this week. The guy who towed it is charging me €200 for taking it 8 or 9 miles outside Cork city. He offered me €100 for the car, a 99 Almera. The body is ruined but the engine is still working.

I'm thinking, the stereo, allows and battery (which is new) would make more than €100. I think he's taking advantage because I'm a clueless female and my mind was all over the place when he asked me to agree to pay that amount.

    Any advice?

P.S. I haven't paid him yet because I can't afford it. Plus, I have gone back to Kerry to get my registration book. My dad phoned him and he refused to talk to him. He knows well that my dad would stand up to him and I couldn't because I was in shock after the accident. The lady in the office threatened to charge €35 a day holding fee.

    What can I do?

For the car itself..Maybe put it up on a free-ad somewhere,,but make sure you mention that state of the car as it is.

I think you'll do a fair bit better than €100.... Especially with the engine still running.

Well, I'm from LK and each guy I found to get my car removed from outside the house wanted charged me from 60-80 E's
You could borrow a trailer from company which has trailers ...bigger one with brakes 50-60 Euros and ask your dad to bring it down to scrapyard company they will charge you for tyres an extra 15-20 E's

    Thanks :)

I didn't know whether or not I could take my car away.

If Mr. Scam is charging you 200 that's way beyond, you haven't signed anything and its verbal agreement between you and him... he knows he can take an advantage of you because you do not know. How often we deal with things like that ... once in 5-8 years.
If he keeps your car in his 'yard' he could charge you whatever he wants but don't give him more than 20 p/day and if he has already towed your car ...he could ask for 50-80E at least, unless u gave him some cash already.
Recount how much you have spent already and how much it will cost you taking away from him. I ended up with 25E after all Car goes on weight scale : )))
    50E trailer,20E friend my 'friend' , 20euro tyres
    Good lluck

Cheers. I think I'll just play tough with him and tell him to keep the car and call it quits.

Hopefully he'll go for it. The bottom line is, I just don't have €100 to give him. What's the worst that he can do?

    He might get ANGRY ...??? : ))))
make sure u sort out your reg book and won't receive motor tax letter or penalty points and then you realize that some else is driving your car.

OP sorry to hear about you crashing your car. To be honest I would leave the car with him and tell him that will cover the tow in and any storage.

It is 99, the most it is worth scrap value is €150.

He towed you car in, more then likely on the instructions of the Guards.

Most will charge between €120 to €150 plus VAT. They are also within their rights to charge you storage on it after a few days.

    Thanks.

I'm hoping that he'll agree to that.

    He has agreed to it.

I called him and explained my financial situation.

I was surprised - he was much more reasonable today than he was during the week.

Thanks to you all for helping me out. :)
